Am I likely to be pregnant, or is it too soon?

I had a blood test scheduled today (nothing to do with TTC) and before leaving the house I did a pregnancy test. I didn't see anything after 5 minutes so left it on the side and when I went back upstairs about half an hour later, there was a line. (I obviously don't know if it popped up before 10-15 mins).

As I was getting a blood test anyway, I asked them to also test for pregnancy. They told me it may be too early (I'm 10-11dpo I think) and the blood test has come back negative.

However, I'm skeptical. The line is 100% there, no squinting required despite it still being faint. My Beta HCG level is 2 UI/L (anything under 5 is considered negative). I looked on a previous pregnancy blood test I did a few months ago and the level on there was 1 UI/L.

Is there a chance I actually am pregnant, my HCG level is just too low to show as positive at this point?

@MademoiselleFrenglish this happened to me with my youngest, I was 10DPO and took a test as had some twinges (wasnt ttc) and the test was negative, so tossed it to the side and about half an hour later went back up to throw it and saw the faintest line, so faint I almost fainted myself lol was in complete disbelief (‘this was on a clear blue) so went out for a digital and it came back 1-2 weeks!

Well I was enthusiastic this morning but now I'm doubting since the blood test was negative.

I'm not even late yet, AF is supposedly due in the next 3-4 days even though usually I don't get past 12dpo.

What I want to believe is that by Bhcg level is just too low for the blood test to pick up yet, but then how is the test picking it up?

I am no expert but doesn't it double every 24 hours in early pregnancy so at 2 - it may not show for another 2 or so days. This is just a total guess though, zero medical experience.

Online suggestions you can blood test from 3 weeks since your last period so I would suggest too early.

Thank you! Then I would assume that it would be too early for the EasyAtHome test to pick up, but the line is definitely there. It's very confusing.

Also my previous blood test is throwing me off as I know I was 100% not pregnant at that point and the number was lower than this time around, not sure if that plays a part and could be an indication that I am pregnant but it's just too early, or if it's a red herring.

In my personal experience easy at home tests only ever had a line when I was pregnant. After a long time TTC, I fished tests out of the bin hours later, even the next day. And never even a hint of a line until I actually was pregnant. (Clearblue on the other hand always had some form of line outside the time frame🙄).
Sorry, I don't know if that helps or not. I have read though that blood tests would be positive sooner than a urine test. It's hard to say without testing again in a couple of days I think. Keep us updated!

Yes same. I thought I saw something last month but looking back on the pics I think I deluded myself. But this morning the line was there, I saw it just as I was passing by so not even pressing my eyeball up to it like I usually do, even my DP saw it. If it's an evap, it's a bastard one for sure.

@MademoiselleFrenglish maybe test again first thing tomorrow morning and see if it’s any darker, I didn’t go to docs until about a week or so later after i found out, as I didn’t believe it lol!

MademoiselleFrenglish · 19/11/2024 09:58

I tested again this morning and it was negative, but after 10 mins I could see the hint of a line. I have absolutely no clue what's going on, perhaps this batch of tests have a lot of evaps as I'm not holding out hope due to the blood test being negative as well, which is what I should trust more than the easyathome strips.

My BBT is still above the cover line, however, so who knows. I'll keep testing, but I think I'm probably out.

@MademoiselleFrenglish I know it’s hard but I’d maybe wait until the day after tomorrow to test again, I know my line came well after it should of done so there is still hope 🤞

Yes, you're right. Next month we'll have officially been trying for 2 years, so it's all a bit overwhelming at this point really. It feels like it's been 2 years of disappointments.

At 10 DPO yes you would expect to have some hcg level picked up if you were pregnant

Yes that's what I thought, thank you.

It depends on each individual. Some test positive earlier than others.. I was not actively TTC. I track my cycle religiously and this month I ovulated 4 days earlier than expected! Knowing this meant I knew I had DTD during my fertile period and there was a possibility that I could get pregnant. From 1-4DPO I had constant cramps. The cramps stopped for a couple of days but I noticed subtle changes in how my body "felt" and decided to test 10DPO and it was positive. I tested again 3 times (I HAD to be sure it wasn't an evap!) On the flip side, my friend tested on month 2 and 3 of her pregnancy and the tests were negative. She only got a positive pregnancy test on her wedding day! Her first scan she found out the gender of her baby!

MademoiselleFrenglish · 20/11/2024 10:19

Another negative test and AF has arrived. So a little warning to all that sometimes easyathome tests can have bad evaps!
