35+ how long to conceive

Hi there. I’m 35 and TTC no.1. Had a miscarriage in June this year and been trying again from August, on cycle 5 now.

Looking for some positive stories from those who got pregnant 35+ and how long did it take? Feeling a bit nervous because of my age but I feel like maybe society just makes us feel more scared than we should be. I also have one tube from an ectopic in 2020 so I think that’s made me wonder if it’ll take longer for us.

Thanks!

Hey lovely, so sorry to hear about your loss it's so worrying when that happens. I was nearly 35 when we started trying for number 1 - we had a few months off contraception first for my cycles to regulate and actively avoided ovulation but then got caught out (happily I should add) after about 6 months, but sadly was an early MC at 6 weeks, we then started actively trying and I got caught again straight away but it was a chemical so we took a month off trying for my sanity and then luckily got our sticky rainbow baby the following month - so a very quick turnaround for me thankfully and hopefully provide you some hope? My friend who's the same age as me had an MC at 8 weeks and actually needed a D&C to help bring things to a conclusion and she then fell pregnant again about 4 months later.

Keep your chin up and look after yourself. Are you doing anything to track ovulation at all? Even though my turnaround was quite quick after my MC and chemical, the month we got pregnant I used ovulation sticks and found this helped me knowing exactly when things were happening and when our best chances were

Sorry to hear about your MC. My friends and I are all 35 this year.

Friend 1 - Went through the ringer. They were able to conceive quickly but had difficulties staying pregnant. Two miscarriages and one ectopic pregnancy. They just had a baby girl three weeks ago. This took them two years.

Friend 2 - Took them two years to conceive. One miscarriage right at the beginning of May 2023. They conceived again right away and their baby was born at the end of February 2024 and she was early.

Friend 3 - Was on the contraceptive pill for 10+ years. She was 33 at the time however. Fell pregnant her first cycle after coming off the pill and had no idea she was pregnant for 4 months! Kept testing negative even though her period never came. She was able to find out the gender of her baby at her first scan!

I am 35 and I have not been actively trying to conceive. My first ever slip up was this month and got a BFP yesterday. It's still very early days of course but I was surprised at how quickly I fell pregnant given my age!

First pregnancy I fell pregnant a month before my 37th birthday on the 2nd cycle.
Second took years but it was more a case of 'let's just see what happens' rather than actively TTC. I'm 41 now and 21 weeks pregnant

Pretty much all of my circle have had their first baby in mid to late 30's

Aged 36

Baby 1 cycle 1 - miscarriage

aged 37

baby 2 cycle 2 - miscarriage
baby 3 cycle 1 - miscarriage

Diagnosed with antiphospolipid syndrome at 38. Prescribed 150 mg every night forever, plus heparin injections when pregnant.

baby 4 cycle 1 - born a month short of my 39th birthday.

aged 40
baby 5 cycle 1 - miscarriage.

progesterone added to meds.
aged 41
baby 6 cycle 1, born just before I turned 42.

We were just very lucky with timing.I peed on a lot of ovulation test sticks. We used pre seed. There’s also a school of thought that aspirin might make the lining of the womb more hospitable due to increased blood flow and reducing the risk of tiny clots which might interfere with implantation.

good luck x

I think it’s really dependant on the woman. I was 30 when I first conceived, now just shy of 35 I conceived again naturally. First took 1 cycle, second time took 3 cycles. I haven’t had any MC’s.

I'm so sorry to hear about your miscarriage.

We started trying 4 months before I turned 35 and it took us 8 months overall. I was tracking using OPKs the whole time and started using BBT as well the last three months, which I think really helped.

SiberFox · 21/11/2024 18:21

We started at 35 and I had 2 miscarriages before having my daughter. I fell pregnant easily, third time was lucky x

mondaytosunday · 21/11/2024 19:02

Four months each time at 40 (birth at 41) and 42 (birth at 43). Both healthy and now 19 and 21!

Iloveeverycat · 21/11/2024 19:13

Age 35 first cycle not tracking ovulation.

EmraldSky · 21/11/2024 19:21

Sorry to hear x

started ttc my second at 35 and it took 10 months. i read a book called 'it starts with the egg' which had some amazing tips.

So sorry for your loss OP 💔

Aged 35 I conceived quickly without tracking. Just trying to have sex around my fertile window. Now have beautiful daughter (born when id just turned 36)

Aged 37 conceived on second month of trying. Sadly ending in MMC.

Waited one period (still aged 37) and fell pregnant again on next ovulation. I'm now 26 weeks.

Good luck xx

I got pregnant first attempt age 35. Trued fir my second aged 37 and it took about 8 months.

Feliciacat · 22/11/2024 08:03

Started trying naturally at just turned 35; tracked ovulation so I knew when that was. Never fell pregnant in two years. Tried ivf a month after my 37th birthday and finally fell pregnant. Lost that this week in a miscarriage at six weeks.

They found out during my egg retrieval in the ivf cycle that I had undiagnosed endometriosis. I’ll keep trying (got two more frozen embryos) but I’m far less likely to be successful. I’m quite an extreme outlier though. I hope you’re successful asap.
