chin hairs

Every month I grow a couple of hairs in my chin. Only ever a couple and usually in the same place. I'm not overweight and have painless periods but am wondering if just ne or two regular coarse hairs could be a sign of something which would effect my fertility?

I'm certainly not overly hairy elsewhere and it's not a big problem. Anyone else get the odd stray hair?

hi beanie, i think facial hair means hormonal imbalance. i have a friend who has PCOS and she has facial hairs - just the odd one or two.

it can mean disruption to your ovulation cycle.

sorry to bring you this news

I have stray hairs on my chin, the longest it's taken me to concieve is 4 months and I have been pregnant 5 times.

find me a woman without the odd chin hair and I'll show you dolly the sheep ie they dont exist in nature and those who say they dont have any are either lying or havent realised yet (horror of horrors!!

Speaking as someone who had no idea I had an INCH-LONG brown hair sticking out at the side of my jaw until I had a facial and she snagged it with the cleansing brush. I kept it to remind myself to bloody pay myself more attention now I'm a mum

"Anyone else get the odd stray hair?" - Ummmm... how do I ask this politely? Have you ever spoken to any women in real life??? I would have thought over 30 you'd struggle to a woman who didn't sprout a couple of hairs everymonth. I think its just the point in your cycle when you produce "male" hormones - perfectly normal.

blueshoes · 28/04/2008 11:26

I don't, except some fine hairs at the side of my upper lip which I have had from young. I am oldish too.

OuftyDufty · 28/04/2008 11:55

Reporting for duty with my two chin hairs beanie, all present and correct!

I've had them both for years, one's thick, the other's fine and they're a pain in backside when you suddenly notice they've re-grown when you're in the toilet at work !! In this case do not attempt to pull them out with fingernails as that just makes them curly [speaks from personal experience].

i hope like hell it's not a symptom of PCOS, i thought that tended to make you really quite hairy rather than the odd one or two?

mummyjaguar · 28/04/2008 12:03

Joining the chin hair brigade.

Didn't notice any until a couple of years ago (aerly 30s). Now I have a couple that grow back in the same places.

Quick tug with the tweezers and they're out. I'd be very surprised if its any indication of fertility problems. I get pregnant at the drop of a hat!

Kewcumber · 28/04/2008 12:10

how hairy you are with PCOS depends on the level of androgen receptors in your skin so not necessarily conclusive. eg races with low andorgen receptors typically celts and some oriental races will have littel or no hair, northern Europeans, mediteranneans will have a great deal of hair.

beaniesteve · 28/04/2008 12:13

ohjoy

I have a few but am not convinced that I can diagnose myself as having PCOS just because other people with hairs on their chins have.

I'm 38 so perhaps just getting to be an old lady!

I'm afriad that it is indeed just a sign of incipient old-ladiness. Next sign is collecting china plates with kittens on.

Well, I have sideburns, a moustache and a full beard (as in under my chin too) and too many hairs to count yet I don't have PCOS and concieved quite easily at the grand old age of 38. I'm just very hirsute and I think my poor DD is going to be too, poor mite. I am of mediterranean origin though.
