Cycles after contraceptive pill

Hi allll

I am currently on day 41 of my cycle.

This is my first month off the contraceptive pill and I had my withdrawal bleed 2nd-7th October

But nothing since, no real period etc

Tested so much and I'm 100% not pregnant (😔) so that's not what's delaying my period unfortunately

Don't think I've even ovulated yet!

How long after the pill / contraception did you get your first 'real' period? And when do I actually start to feel concerned?

When I came off the pill to conceive my son, I fell pregnant before I'd even had a period!

Back when I came off the combined pill to TTC my eldest, my first couple of cycles were 47 and 43 days, but that may have been because of hypothyroidism (I went to the GP to get tests a few cycles later when I was in the middle of a cycle which ended up being 146 days long!). It may be helpful to start tracking your BBT and using OPKs to get a handle on what's happening with your cycle and whether you're ovulation or not. Good luck!

Hey! I'm in the same boat as you. I came off my pill in July and this is what my cycles are looking like so far. I still haven't had a positive ovulation test by day 24 and still doesn't look like it's rising 😢

I’m also in the same position. I came off the pill last month, had my withdrawal bleed and I’m currently on CD 28 and impatiently waiting for my period. Before the pill, my cycles were always 26-28 days. I’ve been doing ovulation tests and had a sharp rise on CD15 but it never registered as ‘high’ or ‘peak’ on the Premom app so I’m not sure if I’ve ovulated either. I’ve kept doing the ovulation tests but it dropped right off again before starting to rise again yesterday. No idea! 🤷🏼‍♀️ Good luck!

From what I've seen on other threads, premom isn't to accurate for the readings. If the test line is the same or darker than control it's classed as positive. I'm waiting for anything higher than 0.2 😢

Today was the end of day 44. Still no period. Its so hard 😔

Hello! HI! Brand new here, so glad you asked this. I (37f) am 6 months post depo injection..my periods are all over and very light, my husband (43m) is 3,5 months post vasectomy reversal (went well).. I am already over obsessing with ovulation tests and dates. (he is just as bad too)
We already have 3 kids, (17, 16 & 13).. didn't try for the ones we had so it's even worse! Any advice?

JC03745 · 14/11/2024 22:55

Each time I came off using hormonal contraception, I'd have a withdrawal bleed then back into the exact same cycle as before. I've always had very regular cycles so no idea if that is the reason?
Just adding because no, not everyone has issues with periods afterwards. If its a daily contraceptive pill, the half life isn't that long- hence the need to take it every 24hrs!

Pinkbonbon · 14/11/2024 22:56

Took me a year to get my periods back when I came off the pill. 6 months more before they were regulated.

superspidey2211 · 14/11/2024 22:58

I've had "periods" but just light ones that come every 2 weeks and last maybe 5-6 days. I know it can take up to 12 months from the injection for fertility to return. It's just as we all know, a complete mind fluff

BrightLilacCat · 15/11/2024 06:59

Hi @lilla93. Sorry to hear that you’re still waiting. I’ve got my period so it would seem I’ve slotted back into a 28 day cycle however… it’s the lightest period I’ve ever had so it’s definitely not back to normal despite being on time! I have endometriosis and usually have heavy periods that I have to use medication to control, even on the pill, however all I’ve had is very light bleeding for 3 days that looks like it’s nearly finished. I’m now hoping I get an on time and normal period next month.

Have you had a properly positive OPK? If not CD43 looks promising as suggesting a surge (where you may have just missed the peak). Fingers crossed!

No positive yet no 😕 I don't think I missed the peak cos I tested 3 times that day

They can rise and fall very quickly. For most of the 2.5 years I've been TTC this time round I've not caught my peak with an OPK - but anything above 0.2 for me indicates rising or falling from a positive.

But do keep on testing - that's all you can do really until AF rears her ugly face (or doesn't!).

I think I may be egging closer to ovulation!

Lining: 10mm
Right follicle: 1.8cm (followed by 1.6cm, 0.87cm)
Left follicle: 1.83cm (followed by 1.0cm, 0.56cm)

Pelvic scan today but didn't ask about ovulation window prediction so going a bit crazy with reading my results now Blush

Ah glad it came for you. Mine are still 43-51 days after over 5 months after the pill. Going to visit GP after Christmas

I'm on day 13 of my cycle now and no sign of ovulation yet so I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up being me too!
