What happens after miscarriage?

Hiya ladies, so it’ll be two weeks tomorrow since I started bleeding and two weeks Thursday since I had my miscarriage. My ovulation sticks are still blazing positive and my pregnancy tests do still have a slight line on them but very light. When will this stop. I can’t tell when I’m ovulating to try again because my tests are just positive every day for at least a week now. Any advice or anything anyone can talk to me about what happens next would be so appreciated 🤍 thank you xx

How long it takes to get a negative depends really on how many weeks pregnant you were. The further along you were the longer it takes for HCG levels to drop to zero. Two weeks isn’t long, I’m sure I was told to wait three weeks to test after some of my losses. Maybe wait another week and test. I wouldn’t bother doing LH tests until the HCG test is negative as it could be quite confusing.

Sorry you’ve had a miscarriage and completely get the need to try again ASAP.

FreyaZebra · 11/11/2024 12:56

LH tests show HCG as well, so that's what's happening at the moment. Don't use LH tests until after you get a negative HCG test. Around 3 weeks post miscarriage is likely.

Daisypod · 11/11/2024 12:58

We're you checked over after your miscarriage? I would contact your gp or epu to ask for advice as after mine at 16 weeks I was told if I had a positive test after 2 weeks I was to go back as there could be retained tissue.
I know sometimes all you want to do is be pregnant again (I've had three miscarriages) but it really is a good idea to give your body a rest for at least the first month

Hatchyhatch · 11/11/2024 12:58

You need to have hcg completely out of your system before your body even considers releasing hormones required to ovulate. As @Herewegoagain8 said, wait until Pregnancy tests are negative before even bothering with lh tests.

howsupport · 11/11/2024 13:01

Hey OP, Just went through this myself and sending you all the best and please look after yourself.

The LH tests also pick up HCG, so the LH strips won’t be accurate and you won’t be able to test for ovulation until the HCG test is negative. When you test negative for HCG is dependent on lots of things so I don’t think it’s very predictable 😕. My hospital said to come back if it wasn’t negative after 3 weeks as that could indicate retained tissue.

I tested negative approx 1 week after I stopped bleeding but only bled for one week as I was quite early (about 7 weeks). I then got a low LH test and then got peak about a week later. No idea if I actually ovulated though and trying to just see this as a non-fertile time to try and reduce the pressure I feel.

For me everything was about 1 week delayed compared to if the first day of my miscarriage was the first day of my period in a normal cycle.

Nosejug · 11/11/2024 13:18

I'm in the exact same position. MC 2.5 weeks ago. I've wasted loads of LH tests just trying to see if there was change. Still got a light positive on pregnancy tests. It'll be three weeks on Wednesday, but I already had a scan that confirmed no retained products. Was a 6 week loss carried till 10. Took three weeks for my body to recognise the mc. I am feeling some pain where I think my womb/cervix would be.

We're trying, blindly, just in case I do ovulate sometime before my hcg goes down. But I'm probably being stupid. Also that could be causing the pain, but I guess I'm just determined not to miss an ovulation. We've been ttc 3 years. First miscarriage. I've heard some women don't ovulate before first period after mc. Also some ovulate really late. And some (more rarely) test pregnant for a couple of months after. Every body is different it seems. So confusing!

Yeah I had a scan they said I passed the pregnancy completely and I’ve stopped bleeding now. X

FloofPaws · 11/11/2024 13:40

So sorry for you loss. I never tested after miscarriage I just continued TTC as usual. Have you noticed egg white mucous yet? Crack on, try not to worry about the hormone balance and good luck!

Butterflygirl23 · 11/11/2024 14:42

I wish my miscarriage would just end. I started bleeding just over 3 weeks ago at 5 weeks (I'm positive I passed the pregnancy 3 weeks today), so I took a test last Monday (2 weeks since the bleeding started) came back positive still, digital said 2-3 weeks. I only bled for about 5 days wasn't that heavy or no cramps or pains but started spotting brown discharge last Tuesday then pinkish for 3 days. I Went for a scan at epu last Wednesday they could see something in my uterus but wasn't sure what it was. I've been having my bloods taken Wednesday Friday Sunday and got a call today and they've said my hcg is still increasing slowly so I've got a re scan tomorrow. It's really is draining

You could well be pregnant? If your levels are rising. What times your scan? Good luck and let us know what’s going on xxx

Butterflygirl23 · 12/11/2024 10:21

They aren't rising by much so I don't think so. My scan is at 4:30 so I will let you know. I thought it may be another early pregnancy but I keep spoofing on and off

Nosejug · 12/11/2024 10:40

@Butterflygirl23 crossed my mind that it could be really early pregnancy too. I mean fingers crossed for you that either your body deals with it swiftly or it’s actually good news. Must be a pretty awful middle ground, I’m sorry.

I was still testing 2-3 weeks on clear blue till just over a week ago, but mine are def getting much weaker. I’m do to confirm negative tomorrow with EPU so we’ll see (will be 3 weeks since main miscarriage). I definitely had rather painful contractions on and off for two days., but a scan confirmed all clear but for a couple of clots on the day of miscarriage. (I was already in hospital being prepped for vac surgery when it happened just an hour before!)

TS13 · 12/11/2024 11:33

I had a miscarriage and a d&c (that’s what it was called back then, not sure of the current terminology) and fell pregnant with the next egg about 2-3 weeks after. I remember staring at the positive pregnancy test which had a very strong positive line. I had done a pregnancy test straight after the d&c and there was a really faint line at that point. The subsequent pregnancy was trouble free. Fingers crossed for you xxx

I’m the same! I mean very almost negative with pregnancy test (can only see a line if I shine a light) but still strong ovulation test. I’ve no idea why, I thought it would reduce with the pregnancy hormone.

Nosejug · 13/11/2024 17:49

Oh, on top of that my boobs are sore which usually happens leading up to period for me. If I did ovulate it was while my pregnancy tests were still positive so I'll never know!

Hey lovely, sending you big hugs. When I read your post it makes me feel so sad 😞
ive had 2 miscarriages in the last year.
The first passed naturally but it was painfully and mentally horrific. My second miscarriage was missed so I decided to take meds to help induce the process. It was utterly brutal and painful.
With both MC it took me approx 8 weeks to stop bleeding and get rid of all the stuff.
i was testing positive for both mc up until the day I started my period.
everyone is different. I did unfortunately have a nasty infection with the second mc so just be careful if you have smelly discharge or feel pain.
unfortunately with both mc the process was painful, exhausting and drawn out.
if you can let work know and do get signed off work if you need to just rest and reset 💓
I thought I wouldnt need time off but due to my infection I was signed off for a fortnight and so glad I took that time off.
my cycles came back as normal within 2 months.
i fell pregnant two months after my miscarriage (mc again) and I wasn’t prepared for that. I thought it would take away the grief but it didn’t so please don’t feel you have to rush x

Butterflygirl23 · 14/11/2024 09:58

@Kels21 thank you for asking it's been a long few days. They scanned me again and could see something but they weren't sure what it could be as it's tiny on 5mm so they either said I could wait about 7/10 days and have a re scan and bloods or have the injection to help flush whatever it is as it's still PuL. So I had a cry and spoke to my partner and we decided to get the injection. Went back in yesterday morning for the injection ( which I didn't want really because you can't get pregnant for 3 months) but I had a conversation with a surgeon/doctor and she basically said I don't need the injection she thinks my body will flush it out itself as am bleeding. My hcg only went up by 3 from last Fridays to the Sundays bloods. She said it's normal for levels to rise alittle then they'll drop. But I've been spotting/bleeding since Tuesday and I do think I passed some tissue yesterday evening and I had cramps on and off throughout yesterday. I took an ovulation strip this morning and it's positive too so i definitely still have hcg in my system but so confusing. I hope you are welll

Nosejug · 15/11/2024 08:10

Hey @Kels21 just to say, my ovulation tests are now a solid negative. So I'm guessing with the last of the pregnancy hormone gone they've also reset. They must be very sensitive as they were extremely strong then suddenly zero. Feels like we're researchers! I dunno why this info isn't online.
