TTC and breastfeeding

Hi everyone. I have a 4 year old and 18 month old. I am currently breastfeeding my 18 month old who I feed to sleep at night time and bf when I come home from work and anytime she wants it during the weekend. We have just recently started TTC for baby #3. Just wanted to know of anyone's experience if breastfeeding impacted your TTC journey. I really don't want to wean her from bf yet as she absolutely loves her bm.

It didn't impact me. I breastfeed my daughter a lot and conceived x

Thanks @teatoast8, that's really reassuring.
I forgot to add that I only got my periods back at the end of August so only have had 2 menstrual cycles and cycle seems a bit haywire so wasn't sure if it was because of bf.

It didn't impact me, either. Periods came back at four months postpartum while ebf and I was pregnant again three months later, and still breastfeeding. DC1 self weaned when I was about 12 weeks pregnant, he was only nine months which I was a bit sad about.

If you want to maximise your chances of conceiving, try cutting down on night feeds.

Thank you. It's amazing how everyone's bodies are so different even with ebf. I combi fed my 1st so periods were back instantly and he stopped bf when I was 4 months pregnant with my 2nd but by then he was already over 2 years old.

I've ebf my 2nd and didn't get my periods until 16 months postpartum. Been thinking to try dropping night feeds but so easy to use for putting her back to sleep as she wakes up wanting comfort!

Thank you for sharing your experience.

My period returned in the November and I got pregnant in January, whilst still breastfeeding. Though I wasn’t feeding during the night, just a few times during the day and my son was about 10 months old. My cycles were a bit longer than they used to be, but still got pregnant.
I think cutting out night feeds can help, but it’s a good sign that your period has returned already as hopefully means you should be ovulating!
Maybe try ovulation strip testing.

anicecuppateaa · 06/11/2024 06:24

Didn’t impact me either (twice).

I’m still breastfeeding my 15 month old quite a bit and just found out I am pregnant with baby no. 2! Xx

Thank you, that's really reassuring. My cycles seem longer too and planning to use opk for next cycle if this month is unsuccessful. Will try to drop night feeds.

Not sure as couldn’t work out my ovulation exactly. Assume about 4/5 weeks!
