UTI during the two week wait

Hi everyone, I’m 7dpo (confirmed ovulation with ultrasound). Unfortunately I’ve gotten a UTI which I couldn’t kick with just drinking tons of water and have had to start taking a 3-day course of antibiotics.

but due to my asthma I had to be given trimethoprim which is not recommended if you’re trying to conceive, as apparently it can affect folic acid levels?

I’m really worried and upset that it may affect implantation or getting pregnant now :/ I do take folic acid supplements, though not a super high dose as vitamins don’t always agree with me. So I take about 800 a day.

Does this mean it probably will affect my chance of implanting? :(

This is something you should ask your doctor, not some stranger on the internet who hasn't studied medicine! I wish you all the best for the future

I doubt it will make a difference but it's out of your control anyway so try not to stress over it.

@Plumchumm try and not worry too much as I don't think it would have a massive effect , there is so clear evidence it would affect fertility, it's not typically recommended early stage of pregnancy but again, it doesn't mean that it would have a detrimental effect on you or any implantation :) it's important that you take care of yourself and it was the right thing to do 🩷

hello, just wanted to come and drop my 2 cents as I am in a fairly similar position.

I was abroad on holiday, got a UTI, was prescribed trimethoprim - told the dr i was ttc but she said it was safe and and that point 'not pregnant'. fast forward 3 weeks and I have a very positive test, making me around 5 weeks pregnant & therefore will have taken the antibiotics when I was like 1-2 weeks pregnant.

I have spoken to my GP who was very reassuring, and said that since I had been taking folic acid pre-conception, and all throughout I really should not worry. She offered me a high dose folic acid but thought it would be a waste because the antibiotic was so early on and will be well out of my system. Just wanted to try reassure you incase you do end up with a positive test!

I also upped my folic acid to 800 when taking the tablets and ever since then actually, GP was also ok with that.
