Wait for smear test before ttc?

I am going to turn 37 in November so I'm anxious to start ttc baby number 2. I am due for a smear in January and I'm questionning if I should wait for this? I have asked my GP surgery if I can book a test early but have been firmly told no. All private GP's offering cervical screening in my area are booked up until January of next year.

Have you had a positive smear before?

worldwidetravel2017 · 15/10/2024 13:44

If youve not had hpv or smear issues in past - imo it doesnt matter too much

No, all previous smears have been clear. Thank you both for responding x

I didn't have mine until a year or so after having my first child. I put it off for so long as I wasn't emotionally ready to have it after the tear I had in labour. All was fine and I didn't worry I'd put it off so long. I think there's a postal kit you can do instead now. If it's something that is on your mind maybe look into that as an option?

Oh, I was not even aware postal testing kits were a thing! I may consider looking into that, thank you.

I fell pregnant after a mildly abnormal smear and missed my annual review as was pregnant...just had it shortly after I gave birth and was all ok. Especially given you've had normal smears in the past I wouldn't personally wait!

Hiya, sorry for resuming an old thread but just wondering what you ended up doing? I am exploring going for my smear early but don’t want to get rejected.

I have a link from a gov site that says samples MORE than 3 months early are rejected by the lab but it seems the issue is more that GP’s will not accept an early booking even if the lab seems to test it
thanks x
