Was I misdiagnosed?

I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was trying for my first baby back in 2016. I was out on clomid and after 2 months I fell pregnant. Fast forward to now, 2 year ttc and today I had an internal scan. She was looking for ages, and she told me I have no signs of PCOS. I'm confused. I know it can't just go away, so was I misdiagnosed? Or can you have PCOS but without cysts on ovaries? The only symptom I have is irregular periods.

Had this happened to anyone else? I have PCOS symptoms but apparently my ovaries have no sign of PCOS!?!? 🤷🏼‍♀️

You can have PCOS without any enlarged follicles in your ovaries. I'm a little surprised that they say they saw them before and not now though as I didn't think those "went away".

PCOS is normally diagnosed thorough two or three of the main criteria:

  • irregular periods
  • higher level of certain hormones
  • the internal scan where enlarged follicles are found

The enlarged follicles can come and go as they fluctuate depending on hormone levels and where you are for your cycle... scanned between period and ovulation I showed no cysts... scanned after ovulation I showed 11 just on one ovary alone (ranging from 0.4-4.3cm!)

I was told that the cysts can come and go. I had loads when initally diagnosed 10years ago, and when i had fertility treatment to conceive DD1 4yrs ago. When I back to the fertility clinic to start the process for DD2 last year, they noted a very big reduction in the number of cysts. DD2 actually ended up being a natural conception.
