We haven’t used contraception for years anyway just condoms when fertile, but over the last 9 months have basically moved to Not Trying Not Preventing - and nothing has happened. Most months we’ve had sex once or maybe twice in the fertile window, but nada. Now getting v worried it’s just not gonna happen. I’m a v anxious person so was hoping easing into it without it being a big deal would be better, but as it hasn’t actually happened it’s making me a bit more anxious.

so yeah, has anyone found this but when you’ve properly tried, like sex every other day throughout, trying other things, did you get a Bfp?

Having sex up to two days before ovulation gives a high chance of pregnancy. Three days and the chance halves. Longer than that is very unlikely. You can look up the figs. Basically, if you're having sex in the fertile window it really depends which day. From memory, having sex every other day means you have a high chance (something like 25% on any given month). If you only ever had sex three days before ovulation you're looking at more like 12%. Unless you are tracking ovulation with bbt you won't know which exact day it was each month, so you don't know if you really were in with a chance or whether it's been very unlikely all along because you had sex too long before ovulation. You'll just have to try a few months of sex every other day, and wait and see!

We did NTNP with our second and just had regular sex every 2-3 days over the whole month. No tracking or anything.
It took a while but I'm now 14 weeks pregnant.

Will this be your first? Don't forget it's totally normal for it to take 12 months, even up to 2 years. There's only a 20% chance each month for 2 healthy adults with no known fertility issues and that drops with age. That's the same whether you are TTC or just not preventing.

9 months might feel like a long time as you'll hear stories of some people getting pregnant immediately but that's not the case for a lot of us.

Yes, we have fallen pregnant whilst trying, we've been lucky with conception, though I've had two miscarriages.

When you say you have sex in your fertile window, what are you basing this on? I'm guessing if you're NTNP, you're not ovulation testing? If you're not, are you going via an app or just when your period starts? I started tracking periods years ago, but found when I first used ovulation tests a few months before we started trying that I was actually ovulating a few days later than expected. If we'd have been trying then, we'd have missed ovulation by quite a few days.

Yes sorry am ovulation testing and BBT charting so pretty certain when ovulation has been!

Yes NTNP for years with the pull out method. Not even a hint of a pregnancy scare! I was concerned when it came to TTC as I'd never fallen pregnant in my life and had irregular cycles. I fell pregnant straight away with both DC1 and DC2!

Ah yes has been from 3 days before to day of ovulation. But yes had read about 20% ish chance so could just be bad luck!

Sorry to hear of your miscarriages
yes think accurately catching ovulation, but I looked back and we havent hit fertile window more than once in a cycle, and a couple of cycle a bit far out/not in the window. So just hoping when we try “properly” something will happen 🤞🏻

We are all different but to get pregnant we found we had to have sex pretty much everyday or every other during the fertile week - once or twice wasn't enough for us x

Clover97 · 30/09/2024 13:43

Ah yes think it's important that I mention that I used ovulation sticks when TTC both babies and had sex every day for a week over the fertile period.

Muddysocks1 · 30/09/2024 14:26

Thanks both!! Hopefully if we up the ante it’ll work 🤞🏻

Forgive me for saying but it does sound like you are trying in the “regular” way if you’re LH testing and tracking BB and having sex? I would try and have sex every other day throughout your fertile period and hopefully statistics will be on your side Smile you’re still well within normal timescale! Good luck Flowers
