Short luteal phase after MMC

Hi! Just wondering if anyone has had similar and if it settled down?

I had surgical management for MMC in July, got my 1st period 6 weeks later. I tracked ovulation once I was testing negative again and I started spitting at 9dpo and period came 10dpo, just had my 2nd cycle and the exact same thing has happened. My LP was never this short before my MC and I’m worried this will impact on me being able to conceive again

Hello @Armdjm, sorry for your loss. This exact thing happened to me.

I had a MMC and D&C in March. My 'period' took 7.5 weeks to come back. I out that in quotation marks because it wasn't really a period, I checked for ovulation and didn't ovulate at all, midwife later confirmed it was an intermittent bleed. That 'cycle' lasted 18 days and I was devastated as I wanted to get back to TTC. My husband and I decided we would leave it until my body sorted itself out and just go on as normal.

17 days after that second bleed, I'd noticed I was having hot flushes and fell asleep at lunchtime. Took a test the next morning at what I recon was 8/9 DPO and it was positive. I'm 18 weeks tomorrow!

Counting back, it looks like that first 18 day 'cycle' was an intermittent bleed and the second I actually must have ovulated either the last day of the bleed or the day after. Either way, unexpected as I didn't think my cycle was back!

I hope this helps you know it's normal and that hopefully you'll return to it all soon ❤️

@KittyFantastica thank you so much for your reply!

Sorry for your loss also! And congratulations 🤍

I know it is so disheartening isn’t it, I wasn’t sure when I would be ready to try again but wanting to and having such a short lp has been making me worry it’ll not happen if it stays like this!

Thank you for your happy story 💗

It was so upsetting @Armdjm I kept thinking my body might never go back to its' original 'norm' and I felt so much pressure to TTC again.

I hope my story helps because I couldn't find anyone at all who took that long to even get their period back. Fingers crossed for you, lovely.

I’m in a very similar situation. I have a DD born in 2023 but had a mmc in July 2022 and have just had another in July 2024. I started tracking this month. I ovulated later on day 21 (normally 18/19) and then started spotting on day 28. Hoping the next cycle it will be better. trying to read up on anything I can do to naturally increase my luteal phase.

It took my cycle a few months to regulate again after a MC, it's very common, I wouldn't worry too much. Focus on doing what you can to be healthy and look after yourself.
