I had a miscarriage in August it was the first time this happened me, I have two children. I wasnt ready this month to ttc but we are going to try for October, Im waiting on my first period to come since the miscarriage. If my cycle goes back to normal which Im hoping it will it means the days Im ovulating and the main day according to my Flo app ill be away from my partner which is the 6th oct , Im wondering if we dtd the morning of the 5th before I leave and again when I return the 6th at night would we have a good chance? I know its a ridiculous question but my mind is so consumed with trying again after our heartbreak in August that maybe Im not making sense

I think actually you are more fertile in the days leading up to ovulation than on ovulation itself, so I think that'd still give you a pretty good chance!

Agree with PP! The graphic shows it well, every other day in the days leading up to ovulation should work well

That’s good to know as we’ve struggled with every day.

My GP said every other day is more realistic but also improves sperm quality, I think it's the NHS standard guidance

That’s even better to know! I guess then it doesn’t matter so much if you hit o-5/3/1 or o-6/4/2?

We only dtd -5 and -2 days before and I’m pregnant. I was expecting it not to work we just didn’t have time on o day.

I think -6 days could be too far, however if it’s replenishing for the next time then it’s hopefully giving the next DTD a good chance? That’s how I look at it anyway.

I just checked - actually says 2-3 days with some helpfully specific guidance on where the sperm needs to go..! 😅

www.nhs.uk/pregnancy/trying-for-a-baby/trying-to-get-pregnant/

"have sex every 2 to 3 days without using contraception – make sure sperm enters the vagina

try to have sex around the time you are ovulating – this is usually 12 to 16 days before your period starts"

It doesn't matter too much on the pattern - sperm can remain viable for several days (3-5) and your egg around 12-24 hours so ideally you have some sperm there waiting for it or close to that.

Main issue is knowing when you're actually going to ovulate, even with OPKs so you're covering your bases with regular sex.

If it helps (and I know this a sample size of 1!) I was TTC my daughter who is now 5 for a year, the month I actually conceived I assumed was a write off because I was away from 3 days before I ovulated for two weeks and only BD once that cycle! (I also went on a work trip and got to fly business class so got v excited by free champagne on the flight assuming it was definitely not the month!)

Hahaha I love the little science lesson 😂

if this is not our month I think we’ll try every 2/3 days from end of period, and try every 2 days in the fertile period. I use OPKs and am temping so I have a pretty good idea when things are happening.

this month we managed to hit o-3 and o-2, tried for o-1 but it just wasn’t happening 😂

Thanks, that's really helpful. First time trying to calculate all this. So I will cover myself if we dtd every second day

Hi im new here! I’m so so sorry to hear of your loss, I had a miscarriage at the end of July so very close to you. I completely know how you’re feeling. We are ttc this month and I also became very consumed with wanting to try again and give ourselves the best possible chance next time. I think dtd day before you’ve definitely covered it. Swimmers will be up there waiting for the egg.
We concieved first time on day 12 and I ovulated on 14/15 so it’s possible! Sending you all the baby dust.

ThatSnugSwan · 12/09/2024 16:09

@LuxyLocket Thank you and Im also sorry for your loss. Its very hard. Its reassuring someone else can relate because Im feeling as if Im crazy, I bought the ovulation strips already waiting for my cycle so I can start and Ive never used these before or tracked anything but I was 28 having my last child and shes 5 now so I really just want to give it my all with ttc. I hope its a good month for you 💖

@ThatSnugSwan It is so hard. People tell you to relax and it’ll happen and not think about it… but it ain’t that easy! You’re definitely not crazy! I already have early hcg strips in my Amazon basket!
I tried this month without ov strips and just went on egg white discharge but if no luck this month then will try the strips next. I think the fact you’re going to track and do the strips is all very positive and means you’ll be accurate as can be! Thank you, I wish you all the best of luck too!!! 🥰
