I'm clocking up a silly amount of time here (and I know it says not to read them after so long... but I can't help it!) I don't know whether it's the faintest line in the world or if I'm just spotting an oasis in the desert. It's addictive this testing isn't it?
I'm new to this board by the way... Just feeling a bit obsessive and addicted to the whole testing thing! Need to get a grip. But how?????

My norm is something along the lines of:

6am do test, see nothing, put it in the bin after 10 mins.

6.20am, get it out of bin, hold it up to light, see nothing, put it in bin.

7.00am get it out of bin, hold it up to light again, see nothing, squint from all different angles, see a 'maybe' line (which is completely imaginary!) put it on the side of the sink cabinet thing.

7.10am squint at all angles under the light, see nothing, put it in the bin.

8.30am get it out of the bin have a good ol'd squint again, take test apart, see nothing, put it in bin.

12 noon, get it out of the bin, squint at it again, see nothing.

12.10pm Do another test, repeat above.

6.30pm do another test, repeat above.

6.30 (next day) do a test repeat of yesterday.

and again, and again, and again until period comes!!

Welcome to the board by the way We have a TTC thread running here if you want to join in

imaginarybluelines · 19/04/2008 14:32

Hee hee - I am JUST the same - apart from having the added thing of deciding I wont test today, as I have such fantastically strong will power and know that logically and reasonably there it is very unlikely I will see a BFP.
So... I spend the whole morning commending myself for my amazingly strong willpower and common sense.
Then make an excuse to go to the shop where I find myself smack bang in front of the pregnancy test stand - weird that! Naturally I crumble - buy the thing - gt home and follow your above day plan... all the time kicking myself for what turns out to be not so amazingly fantastic willpower.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

On the other hand I am still seeing imaginary blue lines so who knows! I might have an imaginary pink baby soon!

I would like to join your thread but am in a bit of a weird TTC situation and may not fit in very well.

OP posts:
imaginarybluelines · 19/04/2008 14:33

Am still staring at the damn thing by the way - that's why my post took so long to type.

OP posts:
NatalieJane · 19/04/2008 14:35

You can join in anyhow, it actually started as a thread for people waiting to TTC for whatever reason, but most of us have jumped off the wagon now and are actually TTC'ing, always nice to get fresh face in though

I am no good whatsoever at will power, but then I rely on eBay cheapies in packs of 20 so I'm not making us too bankcrupt!!

So what is this weird TTC situation then?

NatalieJane · 19/04/2008 14:36

LOL, Do you think it actually is an imaginary line? Or do you think it is a faint line? Is there anyone else you can ask? Or, post a picture?

belgo · 19/04/2008 14:38

I've stared at a test for two hours (in the middle of the night) and only stopped staring because my period turned up at 4am. Then I spent the whole day wondering about implantation bleeds and false negetives....

NatalieJane · 19/04/2008 14:42

LOL Oh yes, the first day of period (when you only go through 10 boxes of tampax) is deffo implantation every month

belgo · 19/04/2008 14:44

I can never sleep the night before a test which is why I was up at 2am!

NatalieJane · 19/04/2008 14:48

See I make myself sleep else I'll only get out of bed and test again!

This month I have decided though, no test's at least till my period late, if it is! Yeah right, I'm only on CD14 or something like that and the test's are already beginning to eye me up every time I go in the bathroom...!!

imaginarybluelines · 19/04/2008 14:53

I guuess that would definitely make you stop staring Belgo! I think personally I need someone to forcibly remove the test from my hand, ban me from any shops that sell pregnancy tests for a while, and tell me to get a grip! (although e-bay.. packs of 20... not breaking the bank... hmmmmmmmmmmm)
It might might might might just be a line... but I think I am just being silly. DH is out for the day, and I don't think I will ell him I have tested again (see - it's my secret, naughty addiction! Maybe I should take up another, more fun addiction to replace it!)Do evaporation lines always appear? And are they very different to positive lines?

My situation isn't that weird.. I just feel a bit like people wouldn't understand and would think I should just be happy with what I have already... basically I have one DD (10 months) and am exclusively BF so no sign of AF. DH and I would love another and I am just a very very impatient person.
See - it is made worse by he fact that I am 'trying to catch the first egg' so to speak - so have no idea of cycle time - or if I am even ovulating in the first place!
See - I really am silly

OP posts:
imaginarybluelines · 19/04/2008 14:58

Does it matter if the line is dead in the centre or not?

OP posts:
belgo · 19/04/2008 15:00

imaginarybluelines - are you aware of signs of ovulation?

NJ - if you are on CD14, I think you had best get to the bedroom tonight rather then the bathroom

NatalieJane · 19/04/2008 15:00

That's not silly at all.

Get yourself over to the TTC thread. There is a woman on there, she is trying for no 7 (!!!), she is in a similar situation to you. Although she has gone away for a few days so isn't around at the moment.

Evaporation lines don't always appear, and I think are more common on the cheaper test's. The difference is the colour, a BFP will have some colour to it, an evap. line is more like a shadow or an indent in the same place as the test line would be.

Have a look on POAS.com, they have pictures of the difference between evap. lines and BFP's.

lardylumps · 19/04/2008 15:00

That is not silly at all, you will fit in nicely... come on over..

belgo · 19/04/2008 15:01

also evaporation lines can appear after the time limit. So don't take it out of the bin after putting it in there!

NatalieJane · 19/04/2008 15:01

LOL Belgo, that is the plan

Don't need much encouragment in that direction!!

The postion of the test line depends what test's you're using.

imaginarybluelines · 19/04/2008 15:04

Belgo - i have a rather basic knowledge revolving around increased cervical mucous... which I did have about 2 weeks ago. However now I seem to have none at all... which is why I am obsessing and reaching for the test! I also feel a bit different - like something is happening. Might just be the return of my period though? Who knows? What other signs should I be looking for? DD has recently started eating alot more and sleeping through the night so am thinking that is this adds up to make ovulation more likely. The problem is, on the other hand, it might still be months and months away.

OP posts:
cariboo · 19/04/2008 15:04

I tried peeing on the stick again, thinking maybe I hadn't given it enough the first time

belgo · 19/04/2008 15:04

I remember having a wierd test.

  • - was BFN
  • + was BFP

I got:

  • |

And I interpreted that as a BFN even though I was quite a few days late. I was in fact pregnant with dd2!

belgo · 19/04/2008 15:05

imaginarybluelines - it could be the return of your period, it could be that you're pregnant.

Don't be depressed though if it's your period - at least that is a sign you are ovulating again!

imaginarybluelines · 19/04/2008 15:09

Hmmmm - will check that site out now. Thanks NJ. The test is clearblue and the line is slightly off centre, and slightly blue. But like I said before (crazy as it sounds!) It might not even be there! Now I sound mad as a hatter!

OP posts:
NatalieJane · 19/04/2008 15:09

LOL Cariboo, now that's dedication, I've never done that!!

Belgo, I am either remebering you saying about that test before, or someone else had one like it.

Imaginary, you can chart yout temperature, put your salva under a microscope, feel for the postion of your cervix, or do like me and wing it on looking for the Egg White Cervical Mucous, and an increased sex drive.

belgo · 19/04/2008 15:10

Could have been me! I'm still annoyed that test cost me 12 euros or so so wasn't cheap!

imaginarybluelines · 19/04/2008 15:11

cariboo - the same stick? I have actually debated that too! Then maybe getting out a big blue felt tip and adding my own line as well just for good measure!
I would be just as happy with the return of my period at the moment as a BFP - at least I would know where I stand!

OP posts:
NatalieJane · 19/04/2008 15:12

I have 'seen' lines that aren't there before, you wouldn't be the first, and I'm sure not the last.

Though strangly, when I got the faintest of faint lines with DS2 I just knew it was a proper BFP.

The fact you can see colour is a very good sign
