Tommys miscarriage clinic

Just looking to see if anyone has any experience of the Tommys miscarriage clinic in Coventry, or anywhere else?
I have an appointment in November, and had through today a list of blood tests I need to have done prior to the appointment.

Wondering what to expect from the first appointment? And am I ok going on my own, or would my DP need to be there too?

Hello, do you mind sharing how did your appointment go? What did they do at your first appointment? I have mine coming up and would like to know what to expect.

Hey @Tryingmomma32 i had my appt last week & I’ll be honest I found it quite underwhelming.
I was asked to get some blood tests done 4/5 weeks before & send them the results. And then my first appt I was only in there 10 mins. I had an abnormal blood result so it was mainly talking around that. I then got sent for more bloods, and will have a phone appt in a month to go through the results

I've was under Tommy's at Coventry. I'm sorry you were underwhelmed by the appointment.
The first appointment is a lot about just getting you on the books etc. They do take alot of blood etc over the time you are with them. I found them to be great when you do get to the point of having a positive pregnancy test again.

That’s good to know @SJM1988 thank you.
I guess when you’ve waited 6 months for that first appt I expected a bit more. But was in there less than 10 mins. But like you say I’m on the books now. Have been given a treatment plan already based on the abnormal blood test & a number to ring for an early scan if I get pregnant. So I am very grateful, but guess I had a different idea in my head about the first appt

My first appointment was a telephone interview so I totally get it. Its hard when you wait so long then get just basic paperwork etc.
Its great you have a treatment plan already. I was in every month after I got pregnant so felt a bit like they made up for the lack of time at the beginning.

@SJM1988 i get it as they must see so many women day in day out. But the 6 month wait felt like an eternity! But now I’ve got my head around the blood disorder I might have, I feel much more positive that hopefully it will work out for me one day. Now just the next hurdle of actually getting pregnant! How often did you go in for scans after you were pregnant? I guess it might vary based on the reason you’re under the clinic

Sending hugs! Fingers crossed for you. Tommy's helped me have my last successful pregnancy so I think they are amazing! I can't believe, in my case, that a simple change made such a different to finally have my DD. And of I hadn't have seem them I would never have known I was short of hormones.
I was in every 4 weeks with Tommy's (from 6 weeks to I think like 20) then my local hospital also had me in a 8,12,16. So it felt like I was see every other week! I was under them after having 2 MMC (no reason found) and 1 stillbirth due to abnormalities. I also have a older child so no fertility issues were expected as he was a textbook pregnancy etc.
I probably was scanned more than people with no previous abnormalities though

Figtree11 · 27/11/2024 13:40

@SJM1988 thanks for sharing. I’m really sorry about your losses & stillbirth, that sounds so awful.
I’ve had 2 MMC, and they think I have a blood clotting disorder, and my GP said that blood test would never have been routinely done. So l would never have found out and could have walked into a third loss. So do feel very grateful. I guess I’ll learn more in the next appt, and then if I do get pregnant how much I’ll be monitored etc.
Thanks again, gives me hope that hopefully I can have a successful pregnancy

Hi @Figtree11 My first appt with Tommys was over the phone (I live in Scotland). I then went down to have an endometrial biopsy for 2 consecutive months. Was found to have high levels of natural killer cells, was given a treatment plan and now have a gorgeous wee boy!

I was given a test for a blood clotting disorder after my first miscarriage. Don't know if that's something that differs depending on your health board. All in, I lost 4 pregnancies before having my son. I am eternally grateful to Tommys as I wouldn't have my boy if it weren't for them.

Good luck in your journey x

Figtree11 · 27/11/2024 14:06

Thanks @chichiwaaa it fills me with such hope hearing good news stories ☺️ My blood test for the blood clotting disorder has come back as abnormal so they seem pretty confident I have this. Have been told if I get pregnant to take daily aspirin & progesterone, and after 6 weeks daily injections. But should find out more in next phone appt as had more bloods done last week

Thank you so much for all sharing your experiences. @Figtree11 I totally can empathise with how underwhelming it must have felt after a 6month wait. I've been waiting about 5 months so far and have had another 2 miscarriages and an ectopic in that time so I'm desperate for the appointment to come around and get a treatment plan in place. Hope it all works out for you soon xx

Figtree11 · 04/12/2024 21:24

@Tryingmomma32 sorry I missed your last message. So sorry for what you have been through. How long til your appointment, have you had blood tests yet?
