How did everyone feel after an embryo transfer

Rainbowsunshine81 · 04/09/2024 16:30

I had my embryo transfer on the 31st of August, was a five day and frozen transfer. Noticed within a day or so after, my lower back started to ache, then a ache/dull cramp sensation in lower abdomen, both have been consistent. Have had previous failed transfers and a chemical from a transfer.
Just slightly concerned with what I've been experiencing. I think I'm more aware of things that go on in your body after a transfer.

First of all, wishing you the best of luck and hoping for a positive outcome. In my case I also had lower back ache and I felt cramping about 3-4dp5dt I thought it was my period coming but it was implantation! I did get my BFP but unfortunately had a mmc at 8 weeks. Everyone is different, be kind to yourself, sending you love x

Rainbowsunshine81 · 05/09/2024 11:06

@waitingforourmiracle Thank you for replying ❤️ it's so hard because you're more aware of things when you've had a transfer. Trying to keep busy and distracted. I've had this backache for a few days now, trying to not think too much into it. I'm so sorry to hear about your miscarriage, it's so hard when that happens ❤️ sending you love too. X

@Rainbowsunshine81 let me know how you get on, when are you planning on testing? X

VioIetMoon · 05/09/2024 14:38

I had cramping and lower back pain that lasted few days. Those were the only symptoms I had

Everlore · 05/09/2024 15:36

Sending you lots of good wishes, I know what a stressful time this period immediately following a transfer can be.
I am currently 20 weeks pregnant with our much longed for IVF baby, following a fresh embryo transfer. I don't really remember if I had any symptoms immediately following the transfer, but I did have the odd mild cramp, sore breasts, etc. around the time I was due to take my pregnancy test. However, I was never sure which symptoms could be potential signs of early pregnancy or approaching period or which could be due to the fertility medication as you can have such similar symptoms in all three cases.
Hoping for h appy news for you!

Rainbowsunshine81 · 05/09/2024 16:27

@waitingforourmiracle I will do ❤️ my test date is a week today, the 12th, I'm not going to test until then. Always get anxious when I know it's getting closer. X

@VioIetMoon That's encouraging to know those were your symptoms, I'm trying not to worry too much, but it's hard because the backache is something I get before a period, but then I know it can be very similar when you've had a transfer, you analyze every little thing. X

Rainbowsunshine81 · 05/09/2024 16:35

@Everlore Thank you, it's such a hard journey to be on and what you go through, you're OK up until the transfer and then it completely changes. Just with having this backache and it being the same as what I get before a period, but then it could be like you say the medication you're on, the transfer itself. I really hope it's positive news next Thursday, I don't think I can take more disappointment. Congratulations on your pregnancy 🙂 you must be over the moon. X

@Rainbowsunshine81 try and stay positive. The feeling I had was exactly like my period was coming on.
I was told it was likely from implantation. I had further cramping on /off for weeks after it and was convinced all the time I was going to start bleeding. DS is now 2 months so what your experiencing isn't always bad news

Rainbowsunshine81 · 06/09/2024 15:17

@VioIetMoon These feelings in my back and lower tummy have increased, ive seen some spots of blood in my underwear, on the tissue paper, like brown/ light pink. I've spoken to my clinic, they've advised me to stop the aspirin and take it easy. They've said it could be implantation, continue with the rest of the medication. Trying to keep positive, but it's so hard.

@Rainbowsunshine81 definitely get lots of rest. I found the emotional toll of ivf alot harder than the physical

Snugglemonkey · 07/09/2024 14:06

I have had 8 rounds of ivf and have children from round 2 and round 8. It really is hard going. I always felt bloated and cramps, but the two successful times, I also had spotting.

The first time.e it was not even spotting, there was quite a lot of blood and I thought it was my period. We were feeling pretty low and out of the game, but I had a stash of pregnancy tests and had the urge to do one. I had a fine positive line on day 10 that kept getting darker. On day 13 I had a havy bleed, wee clots etc, but my test was still looking stronger, so I rang the clinic. They took bloods and confirmed I was pregnant, but as I was still bleeding they thought I was miscarrying. I was booked for more bloods after the weekend to see if the hcg level was increasing normally. It was just a tiny fraction higher, so I was booked in for ad and c, as the pregnancy wasn't viable. I was scanned before the procedure and a wee heart was fluttering along with the remains of another embryo which was breaking down. I cannot tell you the relief. So I had dc 1.

The second dc, I was spotting but couldn't contain myself and tested, pretty sure is would be too early for a positive anyway, but there was a line. I kept spotting but there were no big bleeds. Then I had food poisoning and the clinic said come in and have a scan. At 5 weeks there were 2 embryos but no heartbeats, 6 weeks one heartbeat, 7 weeks one heartbeat which was strong and a wee flutter, but at 9 weeks one strong heartbeat and the other had stopped, with mo growth after week 7. There was no big nleed at all that time, the embryo just broke down. Dc2 kept growing safely.

The failed cycles were tough, but so were the positive ones to be honest! The second time, though, I just knew I was pregnant, so that was better, but obviously losing one was upsetting.

I really hope it goes well for you! Don't panic about blood though, for me it was ok.

@Snugglemonkey I've had a about 2 rounds of ivf before we moved on to donor eggs, this is the 3rd transfer.
Sounds like you've been through it, I'm going to wait until Thursday, which is the 1st test date the clinic have given me, I so hope it's going to be good news. Trying to not stress and keep as calm as possible

Not testing is definitely a good strategy, I just got fixated on them. It was very stressful (and expensive) and does not actually provide reassurance.

My final cycle was a donor cycle and the only cycle when there was anything to freeze. Not sure I can do it again though. I am very grateful for my children.

Rainbowsunshine81 · 07/09/2024 16:06

@Snugglemonkey definitely not testing early cause it just adds to stress. Exactly doesn't provide more reassurance. So hard to go through this journey. I'm very grateful for my son.

Hi @Rainbowsunshine81 i know this is an old thread but wondering how this turned out for you?

I’m currently 3dp5dt on my first round of ivf, since yesterday evening I’ve been having period like cramps on and off and today they’ve been pretty much all day. I’m trying SO hard to not overthink it all because I know it means nothing and also it’s our first cycle so odds aren’t in our favour but I’m failing massively 😂

hope you got the outcome you wanted 💜

khaa2091 · 18/01/2025 14:21

I may have done a pregnancy test on day 6 (no HCG trigger) after a day 6 FET, which was positive. The previous attempt became positive on day 15 and I had a MMC at 7 weeks.

Rainbowsunshine81 · 18/01/2025 16:27

@jenk91 Hey, I'm nearly 23 weeks now with a little boy and so far all is good ❤️
I kept a note of how I was feeling after my transfer, will try and take a screenshot and put it on here if you like.
Know how hard it is to not symptom spot but I think with ivf you're definitely more in tune with your body.
I hope you're doing OK ❤️

@Rainbowsunshine81 omg amazing news, congrats!! That’s so lovely. Thanks so much for sharing that, I know everything is different for everyone so I will have to wait and see but it is good to know that it doesn’t mean I’m out!

ive had pretty much constant dull cramps for over 2 days now, which is defo not normal for me, but I guess all the progesterone pessaries and the other meds could be to blame!

thanks again for responding and sharing that, and best of luck for the rest of your pregnancy 💜

Rainbowsunshine81 · 19/01/2025 14:43

@jenk91 Thank you 😊 still have anxious days. No worries, I know everyone is different, but I wrote things down as I hadn't really done that before and was good to keep track.
I know all the medication and pessaries can do all kinds of things with your body and also having the transfer does things too.
No problem at all 🙂 thank you very much. Please keep me updated 🙏🏻
