My friend is doing ivf and was put on 150 iu stims medication. She’s 35 no PCOS . I think that’s a low amount as I did 225 for all my cycles. Would you class 150 as low or normal?

she had a shocking cycle. Previously she had been on 225 but at another clinic and got pregnant.

I think you just need to leave it to her doctor

🙄🙄🙄 she asked me to ask other people going through ivf for their knowledge, as the clinic she is in is a package where her stims are included , whereas in her other clinic she paid out right for them . So she suspects she’s on a lower dose as it’s cheaper for them. Thanks though for your shitty message and you have the day you deserve

Can she ask for it to be increased?

I don’t know anything about this though.

Quite so. Sorry you found my message shitty OP. I've had a tonne of IVF and found it very stressful but did observe there are masses of different regimens. If there was one best way or best dose that wouldn't be the case, and i definitely found 'the internet' added to my stress rather than decreased it. I doubt the prescribing doctor is much worried about a few quid on one drug amongst the massive cost of IVF as a whole. Best of luck to your friend

I did my first round of IVF at 31 with no PCOS, just unexplained infertility and for that round I only did 112.5; I had 4 eggs collected, 2 that fertiliised, and one that we transferred on day 3 and is now a lovely 2.5 year old. I did a second round last summer at 33 and we upped the stims to 150; and I got 13 eggs collected, 10 fertilised, 5 at day 3, 3 at day 5 (which went in the freezer); and I am now 36 weeks pregnant with number 2...it is definitely possible with low dose stims! My clinic were always very focussed on quality of embryos rather than quantity, and although it would have been cheaper for me if we had been a bit more bold in round 1 and had some for the freezer; I can't complain because it worked and I got what I wanted, which was a baby!

I would trust the doctor. It's not a low amount. The dose is dependent on the blood test and any scan prior.
Even in cases with no pcos , a low dose is often given . A low dose has actually been shown to be better for women over 35 as the milder stims help to produce better quality eggs as opposed to when your body is pumping out many eggs it can compromise quality, especially in over 35s. Quality not quality, this could be the approach the fertility clinic is taking.

I was on 150 bemfola when I did my ivf cycle

Even if her dose was increased , she might not have a better cycle. There's so many things at play and i would trust the doctor, bloods ect to determine the dose.
Clinics don't offer one dose fits all packages

I cannot recall what amount I was on, but the difference is only about £30. I too very much doubt a clinic would be trying to claw back this amount vs looking out patient safety, risks of over stimulation etc.

Maybe the new clinic has a protocol or reasoning for giving her this amount- something she should just discuss with them ask.
