Short luteal phase advice

MJones24 · 28/08/2024 17:21

I'm looking for some advice around a short luteal phase, please. My luteal phase typically lasts 9-10 days before AF, but I spot 2 days before this. I keep getting my hopes up that it's implantation bleeds, but it never is. So, technically, in my head, the luteal phase lasts for 7-8 days, as the womb is already shedding before the eggs get a chance to implant. Does anyone else agree with this? I know the doctors are really reluctant to consider that the luteal phase makes any difference to fertility... but I can't help but think it could?! Any advice/experience or conversations around this would be fantastic... I'm driving myself crazy!

Hey! I have the same thing and my fertility specialist (I don't ovulate so need a little extra help) had to prescribe me progesterone pesseries ( the first cycle I included this into my cycle I fell pregnant with my son)

7/8 days isn't really long enough for most implantation. The GP don't prescribe this from my knowledge without guidance from a gynae. It might be worth going for a private consultation if you can! x

Thanks so much for your response. Out of curiosity, did the LH strips still work when you were trying to track your ovulation? I've read that you may think that you ovulate with the LH strips but you don't always.

I am actually under a fertility specialist with the NHS, but they're just not returning my calls. I've been trying to contact them for three weeks. Did you go privately?

Yes LH strips are always accurate for me with clomid and progesterone.

Your fertility specialist should definitely be able to prescribe these! (if it helps, I managed to get the specialist secretary's email and spammed her!)

I was through the NHS. x

Thanks so much, this is all really useful. I first went to my doctors in December, and in 9 months I've had bloods and my husband has had semen analysis...still waiting on the results of these. Everything is so painfully slow! But I have just called and left another VM, hopefully it'll be picked up soon!

I also had a 9 day luteal phase, started taking B6, a vitamin B complex (apparently that helps the body absorb the B6 better), vitamin C and the seven seas prenatals. The first month I started on them it increased my LP to 13 days, although I have read of it taking a few months to increase for some people. I take them every day throughout my cycle (no idea if I'm supposed to but haven't had any adverse effects yet).

I don't understand why doctors say a short LP doesn't affect your chances. I thought implantation is most likely to happen between days 6 and 12 post ovulation so if you had an egg that was getting ready to implant on day 10 but AF comes on day 9 then that's that month gone... I hope you have luck with the vitamins, I was surprised how effective they've been
