Conception

Drank full bottle of white wine before ovulation/couple days before. Dr said that won’t affect getting pregnant. What’s your take on it?

do you thinking drinking a full bottle of wine before ovulation affects quality of egg ? Will it stop pregnancy ?

If it stopped pregnancy no one would ever get pregnant after a drunken one night stand / night out…

Tryingtohelp12 · 24/08/2024 07:38

I would listen to the doctor x

a few days before - the eggs already been made, it was wiggling its way down your fallipian tube. It can’t impact the foetus as it’s hadn’t been made. It’s probably the only window where you could drink so much and not have it affect the quality of the egg or impact the foetus!

My mate says her first twins cost her 39k . iVF. Her second twins 10.99

I think I’d been drinking both times I got pregnant. I bet a veryhigh proportion of babies in the uk are conceived after a few drinks op. Listen to your doctor.

My one and only baby was conceived after a full day of drinking at a festival in Amsterdam. I agree with your doctor 😂

90yomakeuproom · 24/08/2024 08:12

When I saw my GP about struggling to get pregnant he told me to drink a bottle of wine and try to relax 😂

Cobblersorchard · 24/08/2024 08:13

I conceived mine over the festive season whilst drinking fairly heavily multiple consecutive days a week.
In my case I’m sure it is what made me conceive as we were also old (40 and 45). If it didn’t hamper my ancient eggs I’m not sure you need to worry.

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 24/08/2024 08:14

I was hiking and drinking on holiday and continued for a month after due to various holidays and celebrations (we weren’t trying to conceive and I was almost 40).
DD is 8 and perfect.

women are born with all of the eggs they will secrete during their lifetimes, it is not ‘made’ at ovulation and you can’t change the quality of it with any amount of alcohol

HotCrossBunplease · 24/08/2024 08:17

If you drank a full bottle of wine while trying to conceive, and are now panicking about it, might you have a potential alcohol problem? It won’t affect conception but you need to think about why you did something that you thought would affect it.

Or have I got this wrong and you actually want to use white wine as contraception?

There is a good book called “It starts with the egg” by Emily Oster. Explains the science. Maybe have a read of that OP.

thekrakenhasgone · 24/08/2024 08:20

No it won't make any difference.
But if you're trying to conceive, it might be an idea to reduce how much you drink to keep your body healthy in preparation for the pregnancy

GHSP · 24/08/2024 08:27

Drinking an entire bottle of wine in one session indicates an alcohol problem. Probably wouldn’t affect fertility,

Mandy1990 · 24/08/2024 08:34

Thanks everyone for their replies. I can assure you I do not have an alcohol problem. This was a rare one off, not something I do often at all.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

SocksShmocks · 24/08/2024 21:31

Yes drinking a lot isn’t good for health or fertility. But it won’t have that kind of instant effect. Don’t worry. Listen to your dr.
