Late period - advice

Hi,

Just hoping for some thoughts really as I’m not sure who to ask. Was due AF two days ago. I’m regular, so it’s unusual for me to be late although the longest I’ve ever gone between periods is 35 days (so not ruling that possibility out). Currently, I’m regularly 28-29 days. I took a test 1 day late, and it said negative but I took it at work in the middle of the day when I had a lot to drink - so worried about its accuracy. I’ve been getting cramps for two weeks on and off now, with bad back ache and head aches for the last few days. I also have been feeling really really mild nausea (almost like you wouldn’t realise it’s there, but I’m always feeling a little off). All of this could be stress and I could be due AF any day - but I haven’t felt these other symptoms with a period before. I just can’t shake the feeling that I just feel different (if that makes sense). I also worry if it is just stress that I’m making things worse for myself.

Any thoughts would be welcome!

Thanks, Laura.

Hi Laura, if your period is potentially 1 day late, I think it's unlikely the amount you drank would affect getting a line on a test. There would likely be enough hcg in your urine by that point to show at least a faint line. Maybe wait another few days and test again if still no af. Good luck. I hope you get the outcome you're hoping for xx

It's probably worth doing another test today or with first urine tomorrow morning, HCG levels rise very quickly.

The Reasons could be

  • you have not ovulated this cycle
  • you have ovulated late or not yet
  • you have ovulated late and conceived but it is too early to get a positive test
  • you early MC
Good luck 🍀 !

My period has been late 3 times since starting TTC. Each time, because I track ovulation, I knew that I ovulated 3 days later than normal, and my period arrived 3 days later than normal.

Superscientist · 23/08/2024 09:26

I think I would hold out until 4-5 days late and test again in case of a longer cycle this month and do it earlier in the day.
In both of my pregnancies I have tested at 4-5 days late and had dye stealers. If it's was a normal cycle you would expect a clear positive at this point and if it's a longer cycle you would probably get a lighter line at this point so should be fairly conclusive.

Thanks all! Still no AF - but I’m just trying to stay as relaxed as possible about it!

Hi
I am in the same boat. I am 29 days. Today is day 29 and nothing in sight yet. Worried because I came on so early last month 26 days and I am normally regular. I got sore boob's. I feel constantly wet down there today. People would think I am ill the amount of times I have gone to the toilet to check myself today. I get what you mean about feeling different. It's strange to put into words.

LJaneE92 · 23/08/2024 14:48

I understand KuroKat4. It’s the not knowing which can be so annoying! I’m not sure about you, but either outcome would be fine for me as long as one of them presents itself!

I know what you mean. Getting stuck in your head is the worst, because you just start spiraling.

You said about feeling different. Like how so? I know it's difficult to put into words.

LJaneE92 · 23/08/2024 15:01

Well, I went for a coffee earlier with my partner and whilst these things don’t make me sick, I do find myself feeling mildly queasy. Like I wasn’t enjoying the coffee. I also do have the sensation of cramping at the moment and I can hear my stomach murmuring, which is common with AF so it’s a bit confusing. The headaches and backaches are new to me too.

Yeah, that does sound strange. Keep me posted, if you want. With me. I dunno. It just feels like there is something different. Like I never get some boob's before my period and it still there. At the moment, until I know either way I feel like I am holding my breath, waiting to exhale.

LJaneE92 · 23/08/2024 15:07

Yeah, I totally get that! I suppose similarly with you, these symptoms aren’t the same as my other periods and being 32, I’m hoping it’s not perimenopause related!

Sucks to be a woman doesn't it? Haha. You have no idea what your body is doing each month. Men have it easy.

LJaneE92 · 23/08/2024 15:24

Haha! For sure!

To be honest. I don't know what I am hoping for the most. The fact that it could be a majorly shitty month or the fact that I am pregnant, and will be responsible for keeping a small human alive. Not exactly very responsible.

Morning,
Just posting this by way of update. Did a test this morning, as I am into day 2 being late. It's negative. So I think your initial test being negative is pretty normal.
