TTC #1 for 14 months

I'm 34 and never been pregnant. I've been ttc for 14 months, in that time I've had a lot of tests. I did have subclinical hypothyroidism, but have been on thyroxine for over 5 months and now stable. I had a tiny uterine polyp found on the hycosy and had it removed 4 months ago. I spot from 8/9dpo each month and worried this could be a problem, but no doctor seems interested. My AMH was 7.9, but my AFC was 24, so god knows. FSH 8.5 and LH 4. Considering IVF, not sure how much more I can take - I've been really struggling with this whole journey, with the constant endless pit of negativity. Are there any other tests I should do? Has anyone been in a similar position and got a BFP? Losing hope

With my youngest we were ttc for 18 months, I fell pregnant but had a miscarriage. 12 months later I fell pregnant with my daughter.
Don't give up

I’m 29 and had been trying for 15 months until I got my BFP a week ago. My amh is very low for my age (2.7) and my afc was 9 in February. I couldn’t believe it when I saw a postive pregnancy test and still can’t believe it now. I really believe it only takes one egg but know how hopeless it feels and how dark the days can be. Wishing you the best xx

MissEmily5 · 19/08/2024 18:19

@Charlotte124 no words of wisdom/hope here, but just a message to say you’re not alone. On cycle 13 now TTC baby number 1, 28yo- had lots of tests including a hycosy too. At first I was told I have a thin uterus lining and OH had low sperm count, after some changes my lining looked much better and OH count had gone up to more average count number. But I spot for 3-5 days before my period- it has me soo worried but all bloods come back and my GP doesn’t know what to do either and/or doesn’t seem too fussed to investigate more.
Its a rollercoaster of emotions and the idea of starting IVF fills me with dread but sending you lots of baby dust and luck and I hope this journey soon comes to a happy end for you 💗

That's a question for health professionals, not unknown people on the internet who haven't necessarily studied enough to have a solid knowledge of reproduction! Talk to a fertility physician… Good luck 🍀 I know the feeling

This is so bloody lovely to read 🥰 I have AMH of 7.5 although it's probably lower now. I have been pregnant before and had a chemical pregnancy a couple of years ago with an ex. It turned out our 2 year TTC journey was down to 2mil sperm. We broke up and I am glad I realised he was abusive and it wasn't meant to be. My new partner and I are about to start trying this month and I am so worried about AMH etc but my old consultant said to me it's irrelevant and it's only a time marker. So glad you got your BFP!! Xx

Thank you ❤️❤️ I really hope everything works out for you. We saw a fertility nurse in July and she recommended impryl to me as it’s supposed to help women with low AMH. It may be worth giving it a go xxx

Angie2018 · 19/08/2024 18:43

@Kp1345 funnily enough my fertility consultant actually recommended the same and I have been taking it non stop for the 18 months I haven't been TTC so hoping for good egg quality and that my level hasn't dropped as much as without. I did have 12.89 in Aug 22 for AMH, then dropped in Feb 23 to 7.5 but he saw 18-20 follicles so was happy with that. But i worry that it will keep dropping drastically as it seemed a big jump from the August to Feb. Could have been a strange test or something but i hope and pray the impyrl has slowed the decline down and il be able to have children. Xx

Sorry you are going through this. I have been at this point with my ex and it's soul destroying. We broke up which was the right thing. But fast forward a couple of years and I am now about to start my TTC journey again with my new partner. Scared as hell and I'm now 35 and my AMH would have dropped surely from last year at 7.5 so totally feel your pain. Don't give up. I keep telling myself it will happen even though I don't feel calm inside. Xx

@Angie2018 I completely understand your worry, and I really hope you get your bfp very soon! I've been told to take AMH with a pinch of salt, as long as you ovulate, then you have the same chance as anyone else xx

@MissEmily5 that's great your lining looks better and oh sperm is improving. I know how you feel regarding the spotting. I spot from 8dpo and I'm so worried that this is causing the infertility. My progesterone was at 34, so they say it's adequate, but it must be dropping off earlier than it should. Other than projesterone supplements, which you can't get hold of unless you're going through ivf, there's not much to be done. They say vitamin b might help, but it hasn't helped me. I've spoken to so many specialists, no one seems to know or have answers. One doctor just said 'when you have ivf you'll get the projesterone suppositories then'. Not really the answer I wanted. I hope we get our bfp soon xx

Thank you @StressStress ive spoken to a lot of different specialists, but no one has any real answers, especially the spotting. I'm just wondering if anyone here has had any real lived experiences to share that may help

We were trying for 3 years. I was the one with the problem, his sperm was perfect. I think a combination of the below things did it for us:

  • Hycosy
  • cutting out all alcohol (both of us)
  • pregnacare conception max
  • I went for acupuncture (would try anything at this point)

During this time we got approved for a round of IVF. 2 days before our first appointment we found out we had conceived naturally. Not sure if the relief from getting the appointment relaxed me and helped too.

Don't give up - it's exhausting, stressful and so unfair but it will happen.

Wishing you the best of luck

Angie2018 · 19/08/2024 20:56

@Charlotte124 yes I've been told that too. Although it's hard not to obsess over everything, my original fertility consultant from a couple of years ago told me that he wouldn't normally test that if I am ovulating and having regular periods as it doesn't tell him if I am fertile or not and that I can still conceive naturally. I think it helps being told that eh. I hope you get your BFP soon. I'm trying really hard to relax but it hard. I haven't even started trying yet with my new partner and I am already worried about infertility this time round. I guess I am being impatient too. I just don't know how some women go through years of trying and waiting, I admire the strength of everyone who goes through a long painful TTC journey it's not easy xx

Hi @Charlotte124
I know this is an old thread... but I am in the same position. Did you ever fall pregnant? Or any of you lovely ladies? I hope so 🤍

Charlotte124 · 11/01/2026 22:52

Hi @ChaE05 , I conceived in month 15 of trying, so I understand how frustrating it can feel. I can’t pinpoint exactly what made the difference, but it might have been the polyp removal or taking evening primrose oil to help with cervical mucus—I remember noticing a change then. At the time, people would say “it will happen,” and I didn’t really believe them either, but it does.
My advice would be to gather as much information as you can about you and your partner’s fertility, whether through the NHS or privately—having some insight can really help. You will get through this, and one day trying to conceive will feel like a distant memory.

Hi, firstly, congratulations! so lovely to see a happy ending as i know how hard ttc is (currently on cycle 13). I am in a similar position as you were, i spot from 10dpo every month for 4 days before my period starts. I had a private scan done as it wasn't being taken seriously by the NHS and they found what they think is a polyp, I've now been referred to gynae to get it removed but how long that will take i don't know. I just wondered did the spotting stop after you had it removed? if not, did you have any spotting on the cycle you got pregnant? thanks x

Hi @ChaE05 , thank you so much! I know how hard this journey is. So I had the polyp removed, but it didn't stop my spotting. The month I got pregnant, I noticed only a small amount of spotting on 9dpo, but then it went away after 2 days, it wasn't as heavy as my usual spotting, only very light. It could have been spotting or implantation, I'll never know. But it went away and then I got the positive test. So I don't believe the spoting stopped me getting pregnant at all. I was also having fertility acupuncture at the time, I felt like this helped me in my journey too. I'm thinking of you

Thanks so much for replying! that gives me some hope as it’s always on my mind that it will stop me from getting pregnant as it’s all I’ve ever known since starting ttc, I’ve seen a lot of people say they started noticing spotting only since tfc which is so odd. I have been looking into acupuncture, will deffo give it a go on my next cycle as at this point I’ll try anything! , thank you 🤍xx
