Any women out there with Type 1 diabetic males with pregnancy success stories?

Looking for some reassurance really. Me and my partner have decided we will start to try for our first baby as of my next cycle which should start on Monday. I’ve had lots of tests previously and all came back ok and I have been taking impyrl for a year. He has just started taking impyrl too. He is type 1 diabetic and whilst he is considered to be in the excellent section of diabetes control, my friend Google keeps telling me we should expect a problem conceiving. He’s 41, BMI of 23, exercises and eats well, no other known health conditions. I am 35, have apparently good fertility results and I have a BMI of 21.5 and eat well and exercise too.
does anyone have any experience with male diabetes and conception? Any help would be most appreciated x

Saw this is active threads and that you hadn’t any responses yet, so just coming to let you know that my BIL is a type 1 diabetic in his 30s and is currently expecting his second child. SIL and I are close and I can confidently say they have had no trouble falling pregnant either time.

Best of luck!

My DH is T1 and we're currently expecting our 4th. I'm 42, he's 41 and she was conceived unexpectedly by doing the deed just once! Longest it's taken with the other 3 has been 6 months however I also came off depo for that one so had to wait for it to clear.

Thank you so so so much from the bottom of my heart for saying this. I really needed a success story to tell me we should be ok. Thank you again ❤️‍🩹

No experience of your situation but my dad is T1 diabetic and had no problem fathering 2 children. Good luck!

YouAndMeAndThem · 16/08/2024 13:41

I don't think every man with T1 will have infertility. It's just likely that someone with poorly controlled diabetes COULD have problems with sperm quality.

Please don't worry about this before you've even started trying. It's a mind fuck enough as it is! Enjoy it, no pressure, try and relax.

Yep, T1D DH here and we’ve conceived fairly quickly (within 4-5 months) every time we’ve tried, most recently at age 39. I managed to avoid this particular worry somehow! There’s so much out there on the internet and hearsay, try to let go of as much as you can unless and until it really is a problem for you. Good luck!

My son in law has been T1 since he was 2 (very unlucky) He's in his 30s.
He and my dd conceived their son the month she stopped her contraception and she's now pregnant with no 2 Smile

@Angie2018 my very close friend’s husband is a T1 diabetic and they have 2, relatively easily conceived children. Her husband is now 41 and they have a 4 year old and a 2 year old. So it’s absolutely possible and doesn’t necessarily mean difficulty!

As an aside, I think we were on a TTC thread together in 2022 (my memory isn’t great these days but I am fairly sure, apologies if it’s not you!). Just wanted to say sorry for everything that happened in your previous relationship and sending you lots of baby dust for now ⭐️ (not a stalker, just searched by your username to see if it actually was you and I’m not actually going completely mad!)

Ah thanks so much for coming on here to share that story!! I appreciate it and it seems there are far more stories I've heard where there has been no issues so I am feeling loads better.

YES! We were actually now I remember your username, how are you? Lovely to hear from you!

Gosh it was such a a horrible time but in hindsight everything happened a for a reason and it most certainly wasn't meant to be! It turned out he had very very bad sperm and my testing came back good.

I found my new partner out of absolute fluke and I honestly could not have met a more perfect man and I am so happy and I am so grateful I never got pregnant with my ex.

How did your TTC journey go? Are you still trying or trying again?

I can't wait to be a mum so I hope it happens this time for me and my partner will be the best dad and wants kids so much.

Keep me posted id love to keep in touch x
