OPK - ovulation question

Hi all. I am coming into my 3rd ovulation window trying for baby #2 and have a question I am struggling to find the answer to.

I have been using the cheap opks and it tracks as expected and I am always having sex 24-48 hours before the positive opk but have a feeling I need to keep going and might actually be better waiting until the positive to start dtd.

I believe I am correct that following a positive test an egg is released in the next 24-48 hours and then the egg stays there waiting to be fertilised for a period of time.

Last month I kept testing to watch it turn negative.

Will a test turn negative after the egg has been released and is waiting to be fertilised so probably the perfect time to dtd?

Or once the test has turned negative does that mean the egg is no longer there waiting?

Hope that all makes sense!

LH levels do not tell you exactly when you will ovulate.

You should continue to try in the days leading up to a positive opk and continue for the next couple of days as well. It's estimated that the egg will be released the day after LH peak but that is an average and can vary - ie. for some women it's the same day as the peak, for others two days later etc. Better to have the sperm waiting for the egg than the reverse.

I don't think any home test can tell once you've ovulated - OPKs test for LH which peaks about 24 hours before you should ovulate. No test is exact though. I used the strip tests (easy @ home ones), started regular sex when they started to get darker and kept going until the test was light/no line. 48 hours before the peak could be too early - ideally you'd at least have sex the day of your peak, and the next day (which estimated is the day you'd ovulate). But better if you can start earlier, as I always got a very sudden peak, so it could have been too late if we'd waited for that,
