Hiya!

I’ve been referred for fertility testing beginning stages. had my bloods taken on the 3rd day of my period. All has come back normal.

I have an ultrasound this week also.

if that all comes back normal what would the next stages be?

I haven’t been on any contraception since 2020.

my partner is having his test done in November.

thanks

I'm sorry you have been struggling. How old are you? I had a basic D21 blood test in the UK, but all the rest I had abroad privately. My UK GP was useless, plus I was working abroad often anyways. From memory, I had:

  • Bloods to check for thyroid, diabetes, deficiencies like anaemia
  • Blood for AMH and ultrasound to check my egg reserve
  • STI screening for both DH and me
  • Hycosy (HSG is similar) where dye is pushed through the fallopian tubes to check they are clear and also checks the uterus shape and for things like fibroids, bicornate uterus
  • DH had semen analysis

Why isn't your partner having testing until Nov? After 4yrs TTC, that seems ridiculous to be waiting another 4mths to have him tested. Had your GP referred you to a fertility specialist yet? Also make sure you are a healthy BMI.

I’m 32 and he is 35.
November is the next available date :( my BMI is classed as overweight but under 30. I just had the STI screening today.

so a hycosy could be next? Or will an Ultrasound pick that up?

Haven’t been referred yet.. I think they are doing these tests first and possibly that will be the next step….

I did day 21 bloods with GP and partner did semen analysis with them. We were then referred to local fertility clinic for appointment, and after that appointment they booked me in for a HyCoSy to check tubes. Once I had that done I was then put straight into the waiting list for IVF due to the length of time we had been ttc (7 years then) and was advised to go straight to IVF rather than IUI or other avenues.

Very thankful that IVF worked for us

A hycosy would be part of other, routine fertility tests. An ultrasound will show basic structures, ovaries, uterus, lining etc. A hycosy will show whether the tubes are clear and more in depth info about the shape of your uterus. Are their fibroids? What is their size and location? Are they affecting implantation? Is it a bicornate uterus?

I would be pushing for DH to have to semen analysis done now! I'm sure a GP can organise this, so I'm unsure why they'd be waiting till Nov? Its testing in a lab, so not an appointment with a specialist, so not like there is a waiting list. Again, we had this abroad, but DH dropped the sample off directly to the lab- so the GP had no involvement, other than writing the lab request form. It makes no sense. A bit like saying we will take your urine sample in Nov when we have an appointment! 🤔
