Acupuncture?

Does anyone have any experience of acupuncture for infertility?
We're TTC2 cycle 6 which I know isn't too bad, but #1 took 19 long months and I'm struggling this time round. At the same time I don't want to waste money.

Yes I had it for my first two rounds of IVF and then for my second round of DIVF. I actually conceived on the first round of DIVF when I didn't have it! 🤣

FinallyPregnant2022 · 14/07/2024 19:49

@Tharshe would you recommend?

@FinallyPregnant2022 I’m booked in for my first session this Wednesday. I’ve had 2 losses in 6 months so giving this a try. So I can’t recommend if this will work but I can let you know how I find it to be

FinallyPregnant2022 · 14/07/2024 20:56

@Figtree11 its got to be worth a try! But then again no evidence base, I'm worried about spending money and placing hope in something

@FinallyPregnant2022 yeah I was hoping even if it doesn’t help, that I’ll feel a bit better for feeling like I’m doing something. I’m going in with low expectations and will give it a few goes as my mental health is taking a bit of a battering at the moment, so maybe I’ll come out feeling more zen!

@Tharshe would you recommend?

I found it quite stressful actually, so for me personally for infertility no I wouldn't recommend. I've had it on two different occasions for pain relief - once following a car crash and the other time as part of my physio for a slipped disc and both times it worked wonders.

I would say try it once and see how it feels

App13 · 14/07/2024 22:06

There's a famous one in southfields , new southfields clinic, acupuncturist Adrian.

Apparently you can not do better than him

FinallyPregnant2022 · 15/07/2024 17:23

@Figtree11 tell me about it - its so hard isn't it? I try not to get carried away with 'looking forward' every month, I always set low expecations but always end up so dissapointed. I've had to deal with x3 pregnancy announcements this last week which hasn't helped.
So sorry to hear about your losses 🤞🏻 this will bring you a bit of luck!

I’m having it just now, ttc #3 for 2 yrs. Other two conceived first cycle, but I’m now 42 so age seems to be the issue. I’ve had 3 sessions. Don’t feel any different, only thing of note is that AF was a little later - my cycles these days tend to be 24/25 days but was 27 this month. The dr said that was good! I do believe in the principles around Chinese medicine so am not skeptical in that way but I’m not convinced it’s going to happen now via any intervention, we plan to stop trying in next few months so thought I’d just give it a go.

FinallyPregnant2022 · 15/07/2024 18:48

@Beginningless do you feel more chilled out? Out of interest why is it seen as good that your cycles are longer?

OP posts:
Restaurantcritic · 15/07/2024 18:49

worked for me! I agree there’s no evidence base but worth a try!

Newname7 · 15/07/2024 18:53

I had it following a MMC and subsequent complications. My periods didn’t return and I didn’t ovulate for 9 months so we weren’t even back to square one to try again! Within 3 weeks of starting acupuncture I ovulated - may have been coincidence but that was the only thing I changed. I actually found the sessions very relaxing as well

FinallyPregnant2022 · 15/07/2024 19:22

@Newname7 so how many sessions do you typically sign up for? I've been quoted £45/session

OP posts:
Newname7 · 15/07/2024 19:43

@FinallyPregnant2022 - I had one session a week for 4 weeks then had another at 8 weeks and 12 weeks just until I was sure my cycles were regular

It’s quite relaxing while it’s happening but I don’t notice any overall change. I think it’s just that 28 days is optimum in terms of different parts of the cycle, I’m not quite sure! He also told me it’s good to have a session around the time of ovulation and some people choose to have sessions daily around ovulation- im
not doing that but this week session happens to fall when I’m due to ovulate so let’s see! I’m paying £40 a session but got a block of 5 so got a discount.
