Intermittent Fasting

I'm currently TTC and have been advised to start getting my BMI down in case we need to go the route of IVF. I have PCOS and read that intermittent fasting can help with insulin resistance as well as helping with weight loss.

However this is my 1st month doing the 5:2 and my ovulation is unusually late - even with the PCOS I have a window ( granted a large window ) when I normally ovulate but I'm on cycle day 29 now and still nothing. The only change I have made is starting the 5:2. It has helped with my weightloss, but now I'm concerned it's affected my ovulation.

Has any one else had this happen? It could just be a coincidence but when every month counts I'd rather not take chances if it's this affecting it.

Any advice would be so appreciated!

Weight loss can affect hormones. Fat cells produce oestrogen so when you lose weight sometimes oestrogen levels fall. This is often a good thing as oestrogen dominance can throw other hormones (progesterone etc) out of balance and prevent ovulation.

It sounds like the weight loss would overall be beneficial for your PCOS and potential IVF so maybe just keep an eye on the speed of loss and consider hormone blood tests to see what's happening if your ovulation doesn't regulate.

Thank you, that's some good advice. I may see what my next cycle is like ( if and when this one ends) and decide how to proceed. My loss is steady, only 1 to 2 lbs oer week so I think that's pretty reasonable to maintain. It's just son worrying when ttc and your body suddenly does something weird 🙈 probably just an anovulatory cycle maybe,

Weight loss can affect your hormones, but it sounds like reducing BMI could be beneficial for your chances of conception / IVF so I'd stick with it, it could just be the first month of your body adjusting. I find overnight fasting far easier to manage!

Thank you, thats reassuring I didn't consider that it might just be an adjustment period.
