Late but negative tests?

According to one tracking app I'm 6 days late, the other one says I'm 11 days late (they both have the same data, 6 months worth of cycle tracking 🤔)

I'm getting negative tests. And a tiny bit of dark brown spotting for the last two days. Anyone else had this? What was the outcome? This isn't normal for me!

It’s difficult to go by tracking apps unless you’re charting actual signs like BBT, mucus, LH. Things like stress or illness can delay ovulation even if you usually have a regular cycle. Cycles also change gradually as you get older.
I’ve had brown spotting this cycle (yesterday) but I think AF is just about to start today.
i have read people having brown spotting though before a BFP… could be that you’ve ovulated later and a BFP is coming? 🤞🏻

@1woodpecker well I never observed a peak on my OPKs this month so I assumed I just missed it. Which could 1 mean that we did dtd on the right day and I could be pregnant or 2 that I did indeed ovulate very very late (I gave up testing a few days before my period was due thinking I must have missed it). In which case maybe it's very late AF.

Had cramping for about a week now also so I wrote myself off as soon as that started but I usually only get that for a day or two and then it arrives. 🫤

Hi, is this a false positive? It was negative to start with and then looked back next day to see this! I’m 27 days late. Did another test this morning and was negative so far :(

@Jesscxo reading this morning I saw that twins can cause false negatives!!! But I think it's likely that's an evaporation line there.

No advice @showersandflowers but interested to see answers! I have very regular cycles, and currently 2 days late, with negative tests. It’s all very unusual for me too

Yes, that looks positive, congratulations!
27 days late is very late, though, did you do a test before?.

CatrionaBalfour · 08/07/2024 13:31

Sorry, @Jesscxo - you said you looked back on an old test? Maybe test fresh to make sure. Good luck.

showersandflowers · 08/07/2024 14:06

@Floomobal were you on birth control recently? Or breastfeeding? My toddler has suddenly taken to the boob like it's going out of style and I'm wondering now if that messed up my cycle this month.

you looked at the old test the next day? If so, then it's an evap line (due to urine evaporating). Never ever check an old test again, it's not accurate and gives false positives

only check results within the valid timeframe given by the manufacturer on the test instructions

Yes, currently breastfeeding my toddler. But no more or less than usual, and my periods have been pretty much timed to the day for the last 2 years since returning after I gave birth.

Not sure if I’ve delayed it by stressing about TTC - it’s the only thing that makes sense to me!

showersandflowers · 09/07/2024 06:08

Ooo @Floomobal sounds promising! Why is it as soon as you start trying your body decides to start going all out of sync? I think you might be right about the stress of ttc, maybe. But I feel that as toddler parents life is never quite stress free!

I have a very small touch of blood this morning. 12 days late. This has got to be AF this time, right? At this point I'm ready to start another month of trying and waiting is getting frustrating!

Took a test. Negative. No more bleeding. This is so strange.

@showersandflowers sorry to hear you’re in limbo too. Is it possible that you have implantation bleeding? Does it happen this late?

Ive literally never had to think about this stuff before - first pregnancy was a total surprise, no tww or stress!

Outliers · 09/07/2024 14:02

It's an irregular period. It happens oddly out of nowhere for no discernible reason. Your period should come, eventually.

Once your period is late, the hCG tests are 99% accurate. Only those who frequently have irregular cycles every months (e.g., women with particular type of PCOS) will deviate from this rule.

showersandflowers · 09/07/2024 19:58

@Outliers does this count as irregular? This is the cycle length for every month since January (yes, I made a spreadsheet...)

I would say it is actually. Appears you average 31/32 days

MocktailMe · 09/07/2024 23:59

Cycles are generally classified as irregular if they are shorter than 21 days or longer than 35, or if the cycle length is between those two lengths, but varies more than 7 days (ie. 24 days - 33 days). So yours wouldn't be classed as irregular unless this deviation can be more extreme and is consistent.
