Has any one got pregnant on CD17+ and using pull out method

Hi
i ovulate on day 13 of a 28 day cycle. My 3 children were conceived on day 13 of my cycle (didn’t have sex before then or after that)

I had sex on CD17 assuming it was my “safe” day (we use natural family planning) he also pulled out. We didn’t “go again” so it’s not a case of sperm being left in the pre cum from previous ejaculation.

Today, 11 days after sex I have found out I’m pregnant. We only had sex once and on CD17 and he pulled out. I’m struggling to fathom how this happened and it’s caused an argument between us because he thinks the pull out method is foolproof and has implied I must have had sex with somebody else which I have not!

pull out method has worked for us for 4 years.

Pull out method,is not birth control. It's incomplete sex. If you didn't actually want to get pregnant then there are plenty of reliable contraceptives available these days..you both sound incredibly naive.

sorry to say, but I agree with above. Pull out is really unpleasant for the man, and just not reliable at all as sperm can 'escape' way before ejaculation. I thought everyone knew this nowadays.

Your choice of course, but why would you refuse any kind of modern contraception? Religion? Pull out is NOT a contraception method at all, and certainly NOT natural.

fungipie · 06/07/2024 20:16

How effective is withdrawal?
Typical use failure rates of the withdrawal method are up to 27% (1). This means roughly 27 out of every 100 women using this method for a year will become unintentionally pregnant.
When used perfectly, the withdrawal method has a failure rate of 4% (1). Perfection, though, is not what happens in real life. For perfect execution, your partner must pull out before ejaculation and has to make sure both the ejaculate (cum) and pre-ejaculate (pre-cum) are away from the vagina and vulva. That requires a lot of self-control and self-awareness on your partner’s part. Add a little alcohol or a lot of passion and the heat of the moment can override common sense. These are some of the reasons why pulling out has such a low rate of effectiveness in typical use.

How well does my birth control work?

Researchers measure how well a birth control method works in two ways: - perfect-use and typical-use.

Yes, Catholic

You’ve combined two ‘natural birth control’ methods. They’re not 100% - no birth control is. This is the fail. I’m surprised that a grown man doesn’t understand this.

fungipie · 06/07/2024 20:23

Most Catholics do use contraception these days.

”Most” implies some do not.

I come from a very small town in Ireland were pretty much every couple I know rely on natural family planning for religious reasons, as we were taught to do.

Remember that what people admit to and what they actually do are very different things.

Yes on the risk, but don't judge on contraceptives. I tend to avoid as my body reacts badly to the pill.

Why on earth would he jump straight to the conclusion that you cheated. Where did he get the idea that it was foolproof you can get pregnant without having full intercourse.

Jaffajiffy · 06/07/2024 20:30

78% OVERALL effectiveness with that going down around s the fertile window. What a charmer to insinuate you’ve played away

Without going in to graphic detail, he pulled out about 3 minutes in advance before finishing. It wasn’t a last minute pull out situation. And if he did ejaculate and continue without my knowledge, I feel I would have noticed and he has a long refractory period

I think that the reason why this method is so “hit/miss” is because when the guy is about to “come”, sometimes it’s possible for sperm to leak a little or for a drop or 2 to come out a bit early, before the main ejaculation

Let’s not forget that 1 drop of sperm can contain thousands (if not millions) of swimmers!

you must’ve ovulated later than usual that month, it happens

Agree on this. I'd be worried if the first thing my husband thought when I got pregnant was I cheated. I don't care what contraception or not I was using. I would be horrified if he said this!

Yes I would think that but he pulled out around 3 minutes before ejaculating. It wasn’t a last minute pill out. He ejaculated from oral sex after sex.

He did not outright accuse me or say it. He’s said that he pulled out so it’s not possible unless “you’ve been up to something else” - his words

Pull out is really unpleasant for the man

I don't think this is universally true. I've been with a couple of people who perfectly enjoy and even choose to "finish" elsewhere. I know for my DH he far prefers the pullout method to condoms for example.

Not saying it's effective and it's only something I'd use if getting pregnant would be fine but I'm not yet actively trying.

Rycbar · 06/07/2024 20:34

Do you track ovulation? It can vary month to month. I normally ovulate around day 19 but when I got pregnant I ovulated on day 23 (we were TTC and tracking ovulation).

if you’re going to be using natural family planning you absolutely need to track ovulation.

Prawncow · 06/07/2024 20:34

Sorry, I wasn’t clear. I wasn’t talking about your DH I meant your friends saying they use ‘natural’ birth control.

Don't be daft. Irish Catholic people are just as likely to use contraception these days as anyone else in the western world.

Even if they come from small towns Hmm

there are plenty of other methods. Most Catholics who use contraception use a condom, for instance.

The pull out method if not effective, and I don't know why it has the approval of the Vatican, as it is a method of preventing pregnancy and having sex for enjoyment rather than procreation (even if it does not work well). The intent of avoidance is clearly there.

Sorry for being very 'graphic' here, but what about YOU, and your enjoyment. Do you ever get the chance to orgasm if he has to pull out early?

Springadorable · 06/07/2024 20:41

You've got away with pulling out, it hasn't "worked" for four years. You ovulated late (doesn't sound like you were tracking, lots of things can affect when you ovulate such as stress, illness, poor sleep etc.) and he had some pre cum sneak out. It's not rocket science.

whatcom22 · 06/07/2024 20:42

Well you've been a bit unlucky to avoid the ovulation window and pull out and still get pg. I'm also wondering if you ovulated at a different time. We did this for several years and it was fine, but we only used this as another baby wouldn't have been a huge problem at that time.

Sorry that it's happened, very difficult.

RinsedIfOwned · 06/07/2024 20:44

@fungipie yes I orgasm first. He waits until I have done until he does so himself. I know some people like to do it simultaneously but I've always preferred a "one at a time" approach. I did otherwise agree with your post other that that one bit. Sorry for derailing.
