Periods on the pill suddenly light

Just wanted a place to chat to try quiet my mind…

background - currently 33. At 31 after being on the combined pill for 15 years I came off and was super lucky to have a positive test just 5 weeks later - went on to have a lovely baby boy 👦🏼

fast forward, now 33 and little one is nearly 2. Thinking of ttc #2. I went back on the pill (same one) 6 weeks after birth and had no issues - withdrawal bleed was the same as it had been pre baby (medium flow, 5ish days).

my last 3/4 bleeds however have been so so light - 2 days max, barely fills a pad and is a very dark red.

im very worried about my future fertility chances and scared about peri menopause.

has this sudden change ever happened to anyone else and it’s been ok?

im thinking im just going to come off the pill in 6 weeks or so and see what happens…..

Since my DD was born 2 years ago I went back on pill and have had no periods at all. I've had bloods done to check hormones all fine. I mention it to nurse every time I see her for pill check and she just says 'some women dont' with a shrug. Following with interest and congratulations on your baby 😄

@Curlymam88 and is that on the combined pill?

My periods have been really light since having my son 2 and a half years ago. They were heavy pre-baby, even when I was on the combined pill. I can't use tampons or menstrual cups as my flow is so light 😱 I was on the combined pill for a while and they were light on it then too (after my son).

I'm 26 and had my son at 23 for context.

Take a pregnancy test (as that might cause a change in periods on the pill), or see a doctor and have a blood test to see if your hormones are okay.

Have you been on the same combined pill the whole time? Different pills can affect you differently (and I've found generic brands react differently to the more expensive version, I had issues with lucette but yazmin was fine). Or look into the brand you're on and see if they've changed any ingredients.

That's all i can think of!

@mcdonaldschip yes I am the same, the flow is so light i can't use a tampon. I've been on microgynon since I was 15 so not sure whats causing it (i've also had a negative p test).
It's just strange because my periods were normal flow until 3 or 4 periods ago!

That’s good to know, hopefully not in peri - would really like another little one! Just been worrying these last few months since it got lighter.

will come off in 6 weeks and see what happens….
