Period is 5 days late but negative pregnancy test

This is my first month trying to conceive so am looking for some advice as I don’t want to speak to friends/family about this at such an early stage.

currently TTC and tracked my ovulation dates with Flo. This is our first month trying.

my cycles have been 24 days long for the last 6 months. I am currently on day 29 of my cycle and still no period but am testing negative.

most pregnancy tests state they are accurate from The first day of your missed period. I never miss a period and am very very rarely late so I trying to find an explanation other than pregnancy.

any help would be appreciated!

Have you been ill this month or particularly stressed out? It might just be an odd month.

Are you using ovulation tests? I found my ovulation day varied a bit but my luteal phase was incredibly consistent. If I didn't know exactly when I ovulated I would have thought I was a few days late some months when actually it was just late ovulation, not a late period, if that makes sense.

@GelatoPistacchio hi! I haven’t been ill but I have had a busy month (I got married then went straight on my honeymoon, so lots of travelling also). Despite this I haven’t felt particularly stressed!

I haven’t been using ovulation tests, but definitely will be next month. Thanks for your reply!

Hi, I’m currently TTC too and last month my period was 7 days late. I had negative pregnancy tests all the way through and I eventually realised that due to being ill earlier in the month, I must have ovulated later than my app predicted so my period expected date on there was incorrect too.

This month is now back to normal so I think it can happen from time to time

GG300 · 30/06/2024 13:20

@SavingNotSpending thanks for your reply! Perhaps this is the case for me, I am just struggling to understand that the only time my period is late is when we’re TTC! Whilst also holding out hope that I am pregnant 🤣 guess it could be coincidental!

hey you mentioned you’ve been travelling for your honeymoon, not sure if you’ve been travelling by plane but that can mess with periods. If not could just be the stress of it all? congratulations on your marriage 🥳

Peonies12 · 30/06/2024 15:07

If you’ve got married, been away and started TTC, that seems a lot! Stress and being busy always messes my cycle up. I would recommend ovulation tests rather than Flo app, the app was always way off for me.

GG300 · 30/06/2024 15:11

@cherrybl0ssom5 @Peonies12 thank you both for your replies! I have been travelling by plane, we have actually travelled significantly the last 4 weeks so maybe that is it. I didn’t actually know flying affected your cycle. I just find it hard to believe that external factors can affect you in that way! Will definitely be using ovulation sticks next month. Thank you again!

As soon as I started trying to get pregnant my periods felt like they were all over the place, late, spotting at weird times, symptoms I didn't usually get. I think maybe I just noticed stuff more as I was more aware, or maybe my body just wanted to stress me out by throwing me curve balls. It's almost impossible but try to put it out of your mind for a few days and test again.

GG300 · 30/06/2024 15:26

@Cornflakes44 thank you! Yeah maybe the subconscious stress of knowing you’re TTC affects us more than we know. Will try my hardest to resist testing again in the morning 🤣 I’m driving my husband crazy!

Yes I was the same, testing multiple times a day and then wondering if I was skipping a period completely until I finally came on! But exactly as you said, it’s literally the only time it’s ever happened to me too, I’ve always been like clockwork otherwise - I think TTC just highlights everything and you’re soo much more away of your body and what’s going on.
