please can anyone give me some advice? I have been TTC2 since October last year am 32 DH 34 he had a vasectomy reversal last july - we are told that this was a success.

I have had 2 x 31 day cycles 1x 29 day cycle and the last one I charted was 23 days. I am currently charting and on cd 27. My first charted cycle showed I have a short luteal phase (9 days).

This cycle I am not sure if I have even ovulated - my persona monitor says I was due to ovulate between days 13/14 but other signs don't correlate.

I went to my doctor last week as I was worried about this and he said there is no way I can have a luteal phase of 9 days, that temping is old fashioned and will not tell me when I ovulate and that I need to count back 14 days from each period to find when I ovulate...obviously I am really confused now as this is totally opposite to everything I have ever read on conception.

He said he would order some blood tests if it made me feel better and told me to book in with the nurse....however he did not say they have to be on any particular cycle day - again against everything I have read. So I am booked in to have blood taken for tests tomorrow (CD 28)

soooo to stop waffling, will these blood tests on cd 28 actually be able to tell me ANYTHING about my fertility or lack thereof??

I am really confused and unsure what to do or ask for next

TIA

Pinkmook - sorry to hear that you are struggling to conceive no 2 as am I.

Your gp sounds a little out of date, but unfortunately most gps beleive that you ov 14 days before the end of your cycle. This is the average (of millions of women!).

Temping I beleive is one of the most accurate, along with cm checking.

However, your bloods should be done on day 3 and 21 which will measure your hormones. Also it is probably worth getting your dh to give a sperm sample to check too.

Is it worth seeing what the nurse can do tomorrow in terms of booking in for those dates?

Good luck

xx

ps attila is a much better expert than I am x

Thanks for replying Bellie, I did think surely all that TCOYF stuff can't be wrong surely but he was so convinced I was wrong he practically laughed me out the office!

If the nurse organises them for days 3 and 21 when I go back to get results will he even know how to intepret them do you think !

I am really worried that I have a problem and will never get it diagnosed with him as my doctor!

I shall have to camp out here for attila then!

Good luck to you TTC as well! xx

Are you able to see another gp in your surgery?

pinkmook · 08/04/2008 18:20

No, unfortunately it is singleton practice so only him

he is very good in lots of other ways and very good with my DS, but a bit old fashioned I think. Am hoping the nurse might be able to help me as you say....

how long have you been TTC no 2 if you don't mind me asking?

He sounds as useless as my Gp

Could you go and see anyone else ?

wiredtothemoon · 08/04/2008 18:21

if you have a family planning clinic near you they are often helpful and more experienced in looking at the results etc.

pinkmook · 08/04/2008 18:23

wiredtothemoon - thanks I may just try that as we do have a FPC nearby.

WorzselMummage - he does sound rubbish doesn't he? I just feel so frustrated that he thinks I am unbalanced for temping!

pinkmook - I have been trying for number 2 for 16 months following an ectopic. I have now been refferred so am undergoing all the tests atm.

pinkmook · 08/04/2008 21:57

Bellie -Really Sorry to hear about your ectopic that must have been horrible.

After speaking with everyone on here I rang my local Family Planning clinic and they happened to be running a session tonight - so explained my situation to them and they happened to have a nurse there tonight who has worked for 20 years in obs/gyne and specialises in fertility!

So I went and spoke with her, explained what my doctor had said re blood tests and she said I was right that I needed tests on days1-3 then consecutive months on day21. Also explained about DH vasectomy reversal and how he only has one semen analysis. She was horrified said he needed another as first can give a false impression, also she asked which hospital we took the sample to ......turns out the hospital the doctor told us to take it to is no good for semen anlysis (forgot the reason) so that was a waste of time anyway. So now need to sort out another semen analysis.

She thinks it's possible I am not ovulating and with DH vas reversal only having a 40% chance of resulting in pregnancy - things are not looking good She said when I go back to see him re blood tests - if I am not happy with what I hear then ask to be referred staright away and gave me the name of a consultant

But thanks to people on here at least I got the confidence to ignore my doctor and approach the FPC so thank you every one who replied xx

pinkmook - well done for going to your FPclinic. that the news is not as positive as you wanted, but 40% is still better than 0.

At least you are now taking control and trying to find out your situation (it has made me feel better) and then at least you can stop worrying what if.

if you want to come and join us here chatty thread, we are all in different situations.

Good luck

xx
