21 day blood test

Hiya

I had the '21 day' blood test on day 17 last month because I usually have a short cycle (24 days). However my period didn't turn up within a week of the blood being taken (30 days) and so now I have to book another one. I am just wondering - all indications are that I have ovulated already (Day 12-13) so should I just book for day 21?

Hi beanie ! Book appt for 7 days after you think you ov'd. Day 21 is based on average 28 cycle which assumes ov on day 14. I guess you want to go on CD 19-20

this is probably a silly question but why so they do it 7 days after you ovulate?

If you're pretty confident you ovulated at that time then, yes, day 21 would be fine.
I have a 28 day cycle and ovulate on day 13 and I had a 21 day test.

beanie, i think it is to test the highest level of progesterone in your body. because after around 7 days, the implantation will occur. so for success, the lining of your uterus would need to be thick enough. and this is determined by the level of progesterone.

so what cycle day are you on today?

i am on 2nd cycle using clearblue monitor. you are using one too right?
i have not tested well this cycle. i had a missed test, over wet the test stick, and missed the testing window! so upset with myself. i am on dy13 today and still showing low. last cycle i was already on high by dy13. and peak on dy15-16.

still BDing tho, as i am also tracking CM.

Hiya - thanks for that - yes it is my first cycle. I got peak days on CD12 and 13! and a lot of EWCM on those days.

Am a bit scared I missed it though as we weren't able to have sex on the two days before.

hi beanie, as long as you BD on the peak days, your chances should be good.

i finally got my high today at dy14. so expecting peak tomorrow.

Im on CD 16 I think.

Just read that an Anovulatory cycle can mean a longer cycle (in another thread) so am wondring if that's why last month's cycle was 30 odd days compared to 24 the last few months before that.

So I am a bit unsure about when I should be expecting my period. Could be next Friday or the week after! If it doesn't come next Friday then my hopes will be raised!

hi beanie, i got my peak today. so this cycle i only got 1 high day and then a peak day!

i hope AF does not come at all and you get a BFP!

are you still using your clearblue? since you ov'd on dy12-13, are you still on high now on dy16 or low?

i have a first response HPT and will keep it until i miss my period at least 3 days! not sure if i can hold out for that long though

Beaniesteve - don't worry too much either way, I was told after SIX sequential day 21 tests that I didn't ovulate at all. However I've been pregnant four times (including currently) some folks just don't fit the norm for the levels they measure that's all.

I found EWCM much better as an indicator of fertility anyway. Good luck to you.

wow, that is good to remember. sometimes i do rely too much on test results! i think our bodies are so complicated that science cant really pinpoint certain events

Oh and I conceived DD on day nine of a 32 day cycle so women are far too complex creatures to be diagnosed by any one blood test

Honestly keep having sex every couple of days then when an egg does show up it won't be lonely in there with no male company

Heron - I'm on Low now. and am guessing I would have been on Low yesterday had I got up at the right time and not made the mistake of thinking it just wasn't asking me for a stick!! DOH!

Whomovedmychocolate - I'm pretty certain I didn't ovulate last month (The one before this cycle) as I had no positives on OV sticks and no EWCM and a very low 21 day test and then an extraordinarily long cycle!

beanie, that makes sense, cos apparently after a peak, the monitor displays another peak and then it is low.
