Ovulation CD6?

We are not trying but would be OK if I was pregnant. I'm late 30s and my periods have been a little irregular since I stopped breastfeeding my youngest a year ago. On average, my periods are 28 days, but some cycles have been 35 days, and the next month my cycle will be shorter by however many days it had been 'late' the previous month (eg, 22 days the next month).

Last month I was 8 days 'late'. I got my period at the weekend. It was a full flow for 3 days. On the third day it had gone away so I had sex with DH and we didn't use anything.

The next day (CD4) I had blood tinged EWCM, a little more EWCM the day after and again today, more EWCM and that familiar pinching feeling that normally comes with ovulation.

My question is if anyone has got pregnant from sex as early as CD3? It seems crazy to me that this would happen and most of my research has led to a firm 'unlikely'. I just want to prepare myself for the remote possibility that I could get pregnant and try to get my head around it now.

I'm starting to get a bit anxious that there is possibly sperm inside me and an egg popping out to meet one of them! We are usually very careful so this all seems a bit unplanned 😆

I'm still having ewcm so am thinking that I haven't ovulated yet as it normally dries up on over day. I've been reading about idling sperm and how there is evidence to suggest that sperm may actually live longer than 3-5 days. Has anyone any experience of this?

Have you used ovulation strip ?

newmamaxoxo · 13/06/2024 15:29

I think it's quite possible as you can ovulate as early as 6 days into your menstrual cycle and sperm can live up to 5 days.

No but I do know when I'm ovulating. I used to use opks in the past (when ttc) and my peak always happened around the time I had the symptoms. Ewcm, scratching/dragging feeling to one side and heightened libido. Today I looked at a colleague who is not desirable to me at all and thought 'gosh, Dave is pretty handsome actually'. Then I gulped and thought, oh my goodness: Dave is not handsome (to me anyway). I must be ovulating!'

So sex on CD 3 could, in theory, lead to pregnancy.

I understand it's possible based on recommended timing of baby dance

The plot thickens..I usually just get pain on my left side but today it has been on left and right. Both ovaries. I'm 40 soon.

How early do you think you might take a pregnancy test ?

I'm having the exact same this both, twinges on both sides, when I only normally ovulate from my left, strange. I'm nearly 40 too, don't let that panic you, we can still do this! :) good luck to you 🤞

Ah you understand! Which cycle day did you ovulate? We are NOT ttc but would love the baby regardless! We would not have u protected sex if I was further along in my cycle and I was not expecting to ovulate a few days later. I guess this is how people have surprise pregnancies! I am pretty sure that both ovaries have been working.

Does anyone know if both ovaries release an egg on the same day or just at a similar time? I feel like I ovulated from the left yesterday and am ovulating from the right today. Is that even possible?

The only times in my life I've had unprotected sex when there was ewcm on the scene, I got pregnant. However my fertility is bound to have changed since my last pregnancy.

Just writing here to let it out.

I had myself convinced I was pregnant from unprotected sex on cycle day 3, which I thought was followed by ovulation on cd 6 or 7, judging by the signs.

I had got my head around it and was starting to plan things like getting a new car and asking my sister in law for my old maternity things back.

Now I'm on cycle day 10 and am feeling ovulation stuff going on and I'm like, of course I didn't ovulate on day 6 and of course I couldn't have got pregnant from sex on the third day of my cycle! Of course I will be ovulating over the next few days, as per my regular cycle, normally. And now we are back to using condoms so that little blip didn't mean anything. Life goes on, as it was, as normal.

Anyway

I'm sorry if it was something you'd started to feel excited about. Maybe it is something you want to think about. I hope you're okay!

Ah thank you. I do think about it a lot but my husband said no more kids, so there won't be any more. We already have our hands quite full and I'm conscious of my age. I wouldn't deliberately try to get pregnant but I know I would come around to the idea very quickly. I don't think any amount of babies would ever satisfy me and I will never feel finished, so have to draw a line in the sand somewhere. If we were richer and I was 5 years younger, maybe. Alas! I've been very blessed so far and will have to make sure I focus on that. Thanks for the kindness x
