Late ovulation, short cycles

I'm getting frustrated with my cycles. It's CD16 and I have just had yet another negative LH test. It's not unusual, my last cycle I got my positive in the evening of CD16 and into 17 (I know I ovulated on the 17th as I felt the dull ache in the right place).

My cycles are very regular but only 24-ish days long so with the late ovulation I end up with an extremely short luteal phase (7 days). It's only my second cycle TTC #2 but I'm wondering if I should start seeking conception help now rather than see how it goes?

It took us 3 cycles to conceive my first, but I was 4 years younger and ovulation used to happen a day or two earlier. I was also about a stone and a half lighter so wondering if that could be part of it.

Definitely get some help. Most embryos don’t even implant by 7dpo so this could be a major problem.

Yeah my only hesitation was that we conceived without issue last time and my cycles were similar. I don't want to stress myself out unnecessarily by getting fertility help asap, but equally I don't want to waste 6 months trying if it's super unlikely

Completely relate to this. TTC #1 and have regular 28 day cycle but ovulate around day 21?! Currently on day 16 and no sign of lh peak yet. Was hoping this cycle would be different and would ovulate early :(

Sorry to hear that @NoisyBee but glad I'm not alone! Are you conceiving your first? I do feel quite reassured that I've conceived fine before but after some googling can't help but worry!

Yes conceiving my first which does make me worry :( came off the pill 7 months ago and been trying for 5 months now. I have very light periods too so not sure if it's all related ? Booked a nurse appointment next month to see if there is anything they can recommend.

@NoisyBee yeah I would as a Dr.

I've ovulated a bit late the last few cycles, but my Dr says its due to me coming off the pill. Right after I stopped it took like 2 months to ovulate. Last cycle was on CD 17 with an 11 day luteal phase (a bit short) and this one was on CD16 (so hopefully luteal phase will be 12 days this time). My Dr said it can take awhile for cycles to normalize after stopping the pill.

Thank you ! Yeah it's been 7 months now so was hoping it would have regulated now so maybe this is just my cycle eurgh. How are your cycles now ?

They seem to be getting more regular but we will see with this cycle. If my luteal phase stays short I'm gonna go to my Dr cause there are meds that can help with that.

I'm on CD20 now and still no sign of ovulation.. from opk or bbt. :(

ThisSharpRaven · 03/06/2024 14:31

Hello,

I'm in a similar boat. Get a positive OPK on day 17 and period begins on day 27/28, so time between ovulation and period is less than 10 days. When I spoke to a doctor about it they told me that just wasn't possible so... I've felt rather alone!

I'm trying to conceive my second. Had my first naturally after 13 months TTC and now 5 months in trying for No2. I thought it would be easy and my body would know what to do - apparently not!

No advice or wisdom I'm afraid, just wanted to share that there are others.

QuirkyJadeSwan · 03/06/2024 18:07

@NoisyBee that suck! Hoping it comes soon.

@ThisSharpRaven That is rude. Can you get a second opinion? Short luteal phases can be treated with progesterone.

CD22 and no sign yet.. very strange. Normally have regular 28 day cycle so this must be a random long cycle ?

ThisSharpRaven · 04/06/2024 11:33

I know @QuirkyJadeSwan ! It was so frustrating. I've done research into progesterone supplements and they seem to be tricky to get prescribed in the UK unless you've had recurrent Miscarriages- has anyone had any success?
