On-and-off spotting mid-cycle - anyone had the same?

My cycle is completely irregular but roughly every couple of months.

The past 2 periods I had started with some spotting for a few days, before AF kicked in properly.

A week ago I had some spotting on the Friday night, and again on the Saturday night, then nothing until the Monday night, and again nothing until the Thursday night. It's very, very light and AF hasn't shown up yet.

As my cycle is so irregular it's hard to guess when AF should come but I would have expected it in about a week's time (at least that's what I thought before the spotting started).

Has anyone else had spotting like this, mid-cycle, and know what it might mean?

I have had mid-cycle spotting for most of my cycles, but usually just one instance. I've had several stops and starts this month, but it's my first since a miscarriage, so I'm expecting it to be slightly strange. I'm sure that's not helpful...

I'm very prone to this . First time was because the pill I was on didn't agree with me. Second time was due to fibroids (but that was quite heavy mid cycle bleeding). Third time was just last month: a chemical pregnancy with implantation bleeding. So there are a lot of things it can mean. It's usually a good idea to get it checked out by a doctor, but rarely anything serious.
