Metformin & ovulation confusion

I have been prescribed Metformin for my irregular periods (slightly apprehensive as I generally have a regular 36 day cycle with the very occasional 48 day one thrown in there.. so on the whole quite regular). I am going to start taking it tomorrow which will be cycle day 2. Does anyone know if it will affect ovlulation immediately? I.e does anyone have any idea when I will ovulate? There is a lack of info out there with this drug and I feel that no one has really sat us down to explain everything.. I don't even know for sure that I have insulin resistant PCOS! Sorry for the ramble but hoping someone might have some info on 1. will this drug make me have shorter cycles and therefore ovulate earlier? and 2. will this happen straight away or will I still have a 36ish day cycle this time? Thanks if you've got this far!!

I have PCOS, but my bmi is healthy and I don’t have insulin resistant, but my GP prescribed me metformin while I wait for fertility referral.
Ive been tracking LH with OPK for last two cycles and never had a strong positive, after starting metformin and it’s only been 2 weeks I got a strong peak today! Whether that leads to ovulation who knows, but it’s working for me so far! My last cycle was 50 days and I don’t think I ovulated as I had a very light period which is unusual for me.
