Missed miscarriage in first cycle after breastfeeding - medical advice?

Hi there

I am booked in for a D&C today, following a missed miscarriage.

I stopped breastfeeding my daughter on March 16 - at about 20 months - because we wanted to try to conceive and I had not had a period since before she was born. I ovulated for the first time in about 29 months, on April 2.

Around 10DPO, I had my first "period". BBT temperature dropped as you'd expect. However, when I began testing LH, it was higher than my normal baseline (usually around 0.1-0.2, was 0.5-0.7) - but not positive. A few days later, I got a positive test. But, this stayed positive for several days. I did a pregnancy test which showed I was 4-5 weeks pregnant. I had bleeding the next day, went to A&E, where I was referred for an early scan, two more scans show the pregnancy ended around 5 weeks. A blood test showed my progesterone was in the follicular phase range. However, this was after the miscarriage (the pregnancy had already ended, it just had not left my body), so may be more a symptom than a cause.

We are very keen to conceive a sibling for my daughter. I have asked both a nurse and consultant at the hospital if we need to wait for one cycle, and both said that there is no medical reason to do so, but waiting can help with dating. I am not worried about dating, because I use ovulation strips - so they both said we would be fine to proceed.

I am worried that the miscarriage was caused because my hormone levels/something about my body was not ready to support a healthy pregnancy. I desperately want to try again soon, but not at the risk of repeating this whole experience.

Is there any evidence to suggest that this miscarriage may have been caused by recently stopping breastfeeding? If so, should I wait 1-3 cycles to try again? Or is this unecessary?
