Please help will I be able to concieve with a irregular cycle

I have posted a few times about myself and my wacky cycle.
I have been ttc for 8 months but AF has been all over the place.
My last 3 cycles have been 23 days, 33 days, and then 62 days.
I am undergoing hormone tests, and I am having a ultrasound tomorrow, but is there anybody else out there with a irregular cycle ttc.
Did you concieve okay, and has anybody had irregular cycles investigated and found out the cause.
Will it affect my chances of concieving.
Please advise.

hi, i had irregular cycles, i would miss a month, etc...... I had PCOS and was given clomid and managed to concieve in the second cycle. The scan will make things clearer for you. Don't worry, there is lots out there to treat irregular periods.

You should be able to conceive as long as you are ovulating. Have you tried using the kits?

I had trouble conceiving my DS2 (took 2 yrs) because of irregular cycles, mine averaged 40 days.

It can take a while to conceive for average cycles but if your average is over 30 days you have less chance of conceiving. i.e. 30 day cycles have 12 opportunties to conceive in a year, where as my 40 average was only giving me 9 chances a year.

I have always had irregular cycles, anything from 28 to 45 days. I also had problems with heavy periods and endometriosis. I've conceived 4 times with no problems at all and now have 2 dcs so dont give up. Good luck

I haven,t used the kits.
Thought it best not to, as they may cause me more questions than answers.
Also what puts me off is that I have no idea when to test with cycle been all over the place.

People have also said on here that you can easily miss the surge, or have the surge but still not ovulate.
Oh heck I don,t know what to do.
I feel like real shite atm.
All I know is that I want to fall pregnant sooner than later as I have just turned 37.
I get really upset about it at times thinking that I am doomed to have no more dc's.

Hi lostittoday I had the same problem. After coming off the pill I had 30 something days then 88 days then may last cycle was 96 days - and only because AF was induced by taking Progesterone. I had an ovarian ultrasound a few years ago which showed nothing (ie no pcos). I had a Transvaginal scan a couple of months ago which showed I
have PCOS after all. I don't think they can see much from an ultrasound. It needs to be transvaginal.
We have now been TTC for 8 months and only at the beginning of my 4th cycle.
I'm now under the care of the sub-fertility.
It is definitely possible to conceive on a long cycle as I have a 2 yr old DS who was conceived naturally and have always had epic cycles when off the pill.

Dont use the kits with such long erratic cycles. I used them as was warned. With cycles like this it is possible that you will get the LH surge several times throughout your cycle without actually ovulating. It is also entirely possible to have periods without actually ovulating.

I'm certainly no expert! So Please dont give up hope. It is very possible to conceive with epic cycles! You might just need a bit of help

If it helps, then give temping a go. I have to say though, it can bring a lot of disappointment when you get those high temps which would suggest you're ovulating when you're not. It has given me a clearer view on my cycles though. If you're lucky it will show a pattern Just please don't get your hopes up too much when you get those high temps

Hang in there lostittoday. I know how upsetting it is waiting each month and then af arrives. Just remember it may not mean that anything is wrong and you may not need any help. It takes an average of 12mths to conceive with no problems and regular cycles.

Your GP can do bloods to give you an idea of ovulation. They did this to me on one cycle and confirmed I wasn't ovulating, I then went to a fertility clinic and paid for a private scan to be told I was not ovulating that month and no chance I could conceive. Next month I was pg.

It is possible to conceive with irregular cycles but many women do need some medical assistance from a gynae to do so. If you are not already under the care of a gynae cons at a subfertility unit I would seek a referral asap from your GP.

A common cause for such problems is a condition called polycystic ovaries or its syndrome called PCOS. This is very common (around 1 in 5 women have PCO) and it can be treated though not cured.

If you are not already under the care of a gynae at a subfertility unit then I would ask your GP to refer you to such a person asap. PCO is not a condition that shoul;d be messed around with.

You ideally should have an internal ultrasound scan as this will give a clearer view of the ovaries and uterine cavity.

Blood tests are often useful; if you have blood tests done then the level of luteinising hormone (LH) should be compared against that of FSH (follicle stimulation hormone). If the levels of these two hormones are not compared the test result is meaningless. This particular test is done early in the cycle (day 3). If cycles are very irrewgular the test can be done according to calendar days (i.e the 3rd of the month). Another test done later in the cycle is progesterone.

Do not use ovulation predictor kits or use temp charting; these methods are of no benefit whatsoever if cycles are irregular.

You need a diagnosis of the problem first and foremost.

I have irregular cycles - at one point pcos was discussed although I don't have any other symptoms.
I found the zita west book really useful in identifying my fertile period (although I do find all her stuff a bit commercial and cynical in general).
I'm now 16 weeks pg, so don't lose hope!

I have irregular cycles and have 2dd's.

It did take a long time to conceive.

It took 18mths ttc to get dd1. I hadn't a AF for 6 months when i got pg. Then it took another 3 years to get dd2.

I was due for test when i found out i pg both times.
