10 days late!

Please help me calm my worried mind. Me and my husband have been TTC for a few months. I always do a pregnancy test the day my period is due and the day after to make sure I'm not pregnant before I have a drink. Last week I did this and had a weekend of events (wedding with an open bar, a birthday lunch, date night) under the impression that I wasn't pregnant. My period still hasn't come and now I'm 10 days late. I was worried that my test strips weren't reliable so I bought a digital which was also negative. However, all my family are constantly telling me they all had false negatives at the beginning too and now I'm freaking out that there's a chance I might be and I've done some damage by drinking.

Surely I can't be pregnant with so many negative tests (6 in total, including a digital) but it is the first time in my life that I've ever missed a period.

I wouldn’t have thought you’d have had so many negatives if you are pregnant. Are your cycles very regular? Do you know when you ovulated?

If you are pregnant and in the very early stages, I wouldn’t worry too much about having had a few drinks - just stop now until you know. I had given up / decided to take a break from TTC before going on holiday as it had become so stressful. I made use of all inc alcohol and coffee, eating whatever I liked, stopped worrying about babies and then found out I was pregnant 4 weeks later.

@Kayldavies2910 i’m in a very similar situation myself! I’m currently on CD45- 15 days late. Also have been testing negative multiple times.
I usually have an average cycle of 29 days but range from 25-31 days. Never ever longer than 31 days before this cycle and I have never missed a period before!
I did find though that I ovulated on CD38 (randomly test as I felt typical ovulation pains) so back in the TWW now. Don’t know what happened but I think it’s pretty safe to say I was not pregnant (but hopefully this second chance of ovulation will work out!). Seems to be just a strange cycle.

did you confirm ovulation in your cycle? Or have you been ill/stressed etc. Good luck with it all!

To be honest, I'm not sure when I ovulated but it sounds like I might have had exactly the same situation as you. I'm always 30 days spot on so very strange for me to be even a day late, let alone 10! But I was using ovulation strips last month and didn't see any surge and was thinking they might be faulty. But then I accidentally used an ovulation strips instead of a pregnancy test the day my period was due and it was the highest I've ever seen it! So did I ovulate two weeks later than normal and that's why Im late? It's all so confusing!

@Kayldavies2910 we do sound in very similar situations- I wasn’t able to confirm ovulation as I ran out of tests as on holiday, so was pleased that I found my peak even if it was late on. Do you test with strips? I never could get on with them, so changed to clear blue advanced and I’ve been able to find my peak for several months now.

I have spoken to my doctor and asked if late ovulation could push back your period and she said it can do. It doesn’t always but it can. I’ve definitely had it when my period has come slightly later because of later ovulation, but I’ve also had it when it came slightly earlier despite not being a full two weeks in the luteal phrase, just never fully missing. I think our bodies sometimes go a bit loopy when TTC.

@Kayldavies2910 Yes if you had a high reading 10 days ago that means you ovulated much later. It happens to lots of women I also have a regular cycle with an exception 2 years ago when I ovulated 2weeks later than usual. Your period should arrive in about 4 days, depends how long is your luteal phase.

Thanks for the information ladies. I've just had the tiniest bit of spotting so I'm assuming it's on its way! Shame that I missed ovulation but I'll try keep a better eye out next month 😂
