Ovulation test help - possible to get false positive?

Hey everyone. So I’m quite new at using ovulation tests and I’m confused. Does a faint line mean it’s negative all together? Also I was under the impression that early morning urine is the best however I have been reading a few posts on here which say the opposite. Also I did 3 tests today- first one at noon as soon as I woke up and this was negative(faint line). Did another one around 3pm and was strongly positive as in the test line was the same Color or even slightly darker than the control line. And then did another one around 6.30pm and it was negative(faint line). So I’m quite confused.
im thinking is it possible to get a false positive? Because when I was peeing on the stick some of the urine went on the result window and could that have affected the result giving me a false positive?? I’m 30 years old, have come off the pill after being on it for like 8/9 years. I came off the pill end of December 2023 and got my first period in feb 2024 and periods have been regular since.

Hi OP. Yes a faint line means negative. When doing an ovulation test, it is not recommended to use first morning urine as your body is likely to peak later in the day. Some people have quite a long peak, so will get several peak readings over the course of morning and afternoons sometimes for a couple days. It looks like your peak was very quick, which isn't unheard of. What cycle day are you? It's generally recommended to test for several days leading up to when you think you might ovulate (which you will get to know when you've tracked a few cycles). Also I'd recommend getting a cheap pack of LH strips from Amazon, such as the easy@home ones.

Another vote for the easy@home tests they are much better value and you can scan them in the app so you get a more accurate reading, and you can see LH rising.

Hi,

thank you!! So I was cycle day 18 yesterday. I was just so confused and convinced myself that it was a false positive because some of the urine got on the result window and it made me feel so sad especially when the evening test came out negative. It’s really my first month of tracking so I’m still learning the dos and donts. Ooooh ok I’ll get those test strips off Amazon!! Thank you x
