Drinking in 2ww

Does everyone carry on drinking during the 2 week wait? It'll be for a hen do and tbh I don't want to put my life on hold by not enjoying things.

Yes, I 'drink till it's pink' (as I've heard said before). I try to avoid going heavy and I'll skip the Friday night G&T on the sofa or a glass of red with my Sunday roast, but if I'm at a proper event or on a night out then I'll still have a couple. If you don't have a positive pregnancy test then you won't be sharing a blood supply with your embryo, and after months of TTC I decided that the stress-relieving effects of not putting my life indefinitely on hold were worth the tiny increased risk from having a few drinks before any hCG was even observable in my system.

I don't think it's mentally healthy to divide your months up like this. it's so important to enjoy yourself and relax. If I had a specific event I'd do what I fancied. The amount of stories you hear where people get pregnant the 1 month they don't track/plan/ are on holidays drinking a lot!

Hello, it depends, 2ww makes it sound like you may have had IVF to help you conceive. We had IVF and the dr said I was welcome to drink during this period but that I shouldn’t do anything that if I didn’t get the hoped for positive result would make me question my choices. For me this meant not drinking, but I wouldn’t judge another woman for a different choice.

CluelessInLondon · 30/04/2024 17:29

I didn't do anything differently during the TWW - I really didn't want to spend 50% of my time behaving as if I was pregnant only to then find out that I wasn't and resent the fact that I denied myself things I enjoy for no reason. Anything you eat/drink in that time isn't going to affect a growing embryo anyway, so if you like to have a drink or two and you don't have any medical reasons not to, have them and enjoy them.

I drink during 2ww as I normally would.

My son was conceived accidentally during a very heavy month of drinking (birthday, valentines, a wedding, a week of annual leave) - and it was a VERY excessive month. And he is the most perfect and incredibly smart child. You can’t live your life around the TWW otherwise it just puts you under even more stress (and stress anecdotally makes it harder to conceive) - go and enjoy yourself!

Thanks all, this is inline with my thinking!

I have suffered a miscarriage in the past so I suppose I'm more weary. I don't drink a lot generally, maybe once a month a gin or 2 but I really want to enjoy this hen do without worrying and the timing will be in TWW!

@Peonies12 thanks but I'm definitely not dividing my months up! We are TTC so obviously I know when I'm ovulating etc... as I'm a regular cycle so I just knew that when the hen do is, I'll be in the TWW (unless I get pregnant in the meantime!) So just wanted to see what others did.

I will enjoy it and drink 🍸

@JollyPollysjolly no IVF. Just the TWW.

@Ttcagainnow I'm also a drinker during tww. I try not to go crazy in general when TTC but the two times I've conceived were when I had some heavy drinking. Obvs I stop the minute I get a Bfp.

There's actually studies that reported higher fertility for beer and wine drinkers as opposed to abstainers. But also some that say the opposite.

I think on the whole, moderate drinking is fine. Regular heavy drinking can affect fertility.

Confusedddddddd · 01/05/2024 17:55

Also I'll test early (from 7dpo) if I want a drink to make sure I'm not pregnant beforehand.

Revelatio · 01/05/2024 17:56

Yes, I can’t see how it would affect anything negatively. The egg has already been made, it’s not attached to your bloodstream, so I’m not sure what the issue is?

No need for the rude reply! It was just a query!

I've read recently something along the lines of "...the egg that is going to be released in a particular cycle is going from oocyte into antral (?) follicle 3 months in advance", so in my understanding the quality of that egg is determined long before the TWW. With that said... Yes I will enjoy a glass of wine this Friday (as it might as well be my last for the foreseeable).

OnePinkDuck · 01/05/2024 18:30

Have a great night and fingers crossed for a positive cycle for you :)

Oh god, sorry, I definitely didn’t mean this in a rude way at all!! I was trying to be positive! It was actually a response to those who were being a bit more disparaging about it. All I meant was that we don’t have to worry about alcohol affecting the eggs as they’ve popped out, and we don’t need to worry about damage to any growing cells as they’re not attached to the blood stream - therefore let’s crack on and have a drink and save all the worrying until later on when our periods are due!

I am really sorry, I honestly didn’t mean to offend, I thought I was being supportive!!

I’m sure you’ll be fine! My son was conceived after a lot of wine on our anniversary break. We were in Cornwall so there was also a significant amount of Rattler involved in the following days. I honestly wasn’t expecting to fall pregnant so quickly (it was our first month of trying. Ironically, I didn’t drink for a year when I was ttc our second and she took months to come along. I was probably too stressed about it 🤷🏻‍♀️)

I did stop drinking as soon as I found out.
He’s 9 now. Happy, healthy and normal. Except he does prefer football over rugby but I’m working on that… 😉
Go and have fun xx

No worries at all, I took it the wrong tone! It's fine 🙂
