Right, I know that I'm going to get the usual lectures and I know, I know. Let's just get that out of the way 😯

A few days ago, both DH and I woke up in the middle of the night and started having sex. We usually use condoms but we were both kind of half asleep and I'm not really sure what happened. Next thing, my husband pulled out and finished on my vulva. I sort of rolled over and drifted back to sleep straight away. A while after, I'm thinking 20-30 minutes, I properly woke up and and thought 'oh, that was really silly'. I went to the bathroom, urinated and wiped, and, thinking that would do the trick, went back to bed (tired). I checked my app and it said it a potential fertile day. The next day I started getting ovulation pains.

Anyway, if I got pregnant, it wouldn't be the end of the world. This was a weird, hazy, sleepy encounter and I definitely wasn't thinking straight as it was 4am! I've been googling, and the concensus is that while 'splash' pregnancies can occur, they aren't that common.

Anyway, I'm trying to prepare myself for any eventuality so am wondering if this has actually ever happened to you? Google also returned forum results of people saying 'I know someone who this happened to' but nobody with a personal story to tell.

I'm 42 if that helps anyone work out my odds, have children already who were all conceived easily. Old enough to know better, some might say!

Well, that's when I would have sex if I wanted to get pregnant so I'd say there's a reasonable chance, especially if you conceived easily before and your children are young so similar time frame.

Well it’s too late now but if you don’t want a pregnancy you should have got morning after pill. Sounds fairly unlikely though, withdrawal worked for us for years, and I got pregnant within a few months of trying,

I didn't want to take the MAP and decided to just wait and see what happened. Another baby isn't on our plans but wouldn't be catastrophic if it did happen. Anyway, I'm going to just go with the flow. I'm probably fine but there's always a chance I guess.

Sounds like it will be fine either way. Let us know what happens!

Thank you. My mind has run away with me now and I'm starting to get excited planning for this baby who most likely won't ever exist 🙃
