Is acupuncture worthwhile?

Been TTC #2 for 10 months now. Had fertility testing and everything is normal. Things going against me are my age (38) and only having one tube, and also 3 small cysts that the dr didn't seem concerned about.

I've read a bit about acupuncture and wondering if anyone has had any success with it? I'm been very stressed this year (partly fertility issues/partly work) so I'm thinking at least it'll be relaxing?

I had it while I was ttc. Who knows what part it played in the success? But it was relaxing, I really liked my therapist and I felt better after my sessions.

If you can afford it, I would definitely recommend. There are studies that suggest it does help. If you go ahead with find it a therapist and space that helps you feel relaxed. And let it boost your positive vibes without hanging all your hopes on it.

I had it for a while whilst recovering from my last miscarriage. I definitely think it helped get my cycle back on track, didn't help me conceive (I couldn't afford to keep doing it) but I always slept amazingly got a few nights after each session and felt like a weight was taken off. I'd recommend it for that anyway, even if it didn't directly help with conceiving.

I tried for DD for two years before trying acupuncture. Fell with her the first time I ovulated after starting. Was planning on going back to it when TTC the second time round but fell immediately so didn't need it.

I’ve had acupuncture for other reasons and found it so beneficial, always made me sleep so well and feel more relaxed.

The thing about acupuncture is that it's impossible to do studies on it, double blind sticking needles in people sounds worrying Grin

Does it work? Who knows? Is there an element of confirmation bias, placebo effect, reversion to the mean, and all the other statistical issues? Yes.

But if you have the money and want to, do. I find it relaxing, so relaxing I can't drive for a good 30 minutes afterwards. Worth it to me.

Thanks @vincettenoir @moosey89 @Dinneronmybfpillow @Peonies12

Thanks for your responses, I'm kind of feeling like it can't hurt. I've always wanted to try acupuncture too, and I've been concerned stress might be getting in the way of us conceiving so I can try it for a while and see how it goes.

It worked for me. Over 3.5 years of TTC,I'd had investigations, lap and dye tests, and clomid. Nothing worked and two consultants told me that I'd never conceive naturally and to go away and think about IVF or adoption.
Being bloody minded,I took no notice and went for acupuncture. Within weeks I was pregnant, sadly it was ectopic and I was told that my already slim chances of conceiving naturally and it being in the right place were virtually nil.

Not liking being told what I can and can't do, I had another acupuncture treatment shortly after my ectopic and was pregnant again, just 7 weeks later. I had a healthy DD and when she was a year old, started TTC again as we didn't know how long it'd take ( I was 35 by then). I didn't even need to see my acupuncturist as I was pregnant at the first attempt and ended up with two DDs under 21 months.

I'm the least woo person ever, and can't explain it,but it worked.

I had acupuncture in the run up to a FET round of IVF. Two previous rounds (without acupuncture) had failed. The third time I got lucky. No idea if the acupuncture had anything to do with it. I found it relaxing though.

I had acupuncture whilst TTC naturally and then during IVF. I did find it relaxing and my acupuncturist was very knowledgeable about IVF and conception and was a good person to talk to. However I never noticed any changes in my cycle or periods, which she said I would. Having had acupuncture during two fresh and one frozen cycle, all unsuccessful, I decided not to bother with my 4th (frozen) cycle as the costs of everything were mounting up, and that was the one when I finally got pregnant. So I don't think it made any difference for me but perhaps it might help depending on an individual's specific issue.
