Metformin for pcos

Hi all, I've been put on metformin for Pcos and ive just found out im pregnant, do I keep taking the metformin? (Will phone drs when there open) thank you

Congratulations yes I kept taking mine until 20 weeks!

I kept taking mine until 16/18 weeks. No one seemed to know if I should continue or not but the consensus was it doesn’t do any harm so continued until then

Yes keep taking it. You should keep taking it throughout your pregnancy. I took it throughout mine and have a healthy 2 year old.

it’s what is prescribed for gestational diabetes right through pregnancy anyway - totally safe, no reason to stop.

Took mine throughout only pausing for one month prior to GD test. Again everyone was vague so sought advice from consultant who diagnosed me and advised to stay on it if I want more children and don't want my pcos symptoms to flare up! I got pregnant again when my son was 9 months old so I do believe it has supported regular ovulation following my pregnancy and I am still taking it now while pregnant with my second x

i was told to stop taking it for the GD test but I was naughty and didn’t as I didn’t want to jeopardise the pregnancy by coming off it. As metformin is the treatment for GD anyway I figured if my results come back normal it shows im on the correct dose anyway 🤷‍♀️ my results did come back normal so I just carried on as I was.

@Mamaxo I took throughout pregnancy, and then after whilst breastfeeding, until my GP said I shouldn't whilst breastfeeding; so worth a discussion if you do breastfeed.

Took throughout breast feeding and all ok - every medical professional ok'd it

I have pcos and am on metformin to hopefully help potential conception

We had a miscarriage last yr

@worldwidetravel2017 I started metformin, had a period a week later and was pregnant, I'm currently 11 weeks and so far so good 🤞 I am on progesterone now since being pregnant to, good luck xxx
