TTC cycle 9 and no luck- private scan?

Hi everyone,

Me and my husband have been TTC for 9 cycles now and not even a hint of a BFP. I’ve tracked ovulation for months, been ‘relaxed’ for a couple of months (not tracking) and last month we tried preseed but still no luck.

I’ve been thinking of getting a private ‘well woman’ scan for £100 at Window To The Womb/Imaginatal and wondered if anyone has done this before and if it’s worth it for peace of mind?

TIA! X

If you’re worried about fertility OP you’d find it far more useful to get private testing done for both of you rather than a scan x

How old are you both? If you are younger, I'd be inclined to wait a few more months and see GP for NHS fertility testing for you both, a private scan just for you won't be that useful on its own.

I’m 30 (almost 31) and my husband is 27. I’m unsure wether to book one of these fertility scans or wait until it’s been a year and contact the GP 😫

I wouldn’t advise a scan but you could always book some private testing if you wanted to get a picture of what may be going on so blood tests, sperm sample etc. A scan really won’t tell you much x

You're both young and 9 months isn't a long time - although it can be frustrating! Leave it for when you've been trying for a year. If there's still nothing, book for fertility checks for both of you.

doing some fertility testing might be the best place to start - your GP might do it (mine did but I also had short/irregular periods so wasn’t a purely fertility thing), but if not I recommend Hertility. It’s about £150 but they do a range of tests - showed I have low oestrogen. You can also do a mid luteal (day 21) blood test to see if your progesterone is high enough/looks like you’re ovulating.

@Acphillips15 me and my OH have been trying for 8 months now- when we hit 6 months we decided to get a private couples fertility assessment which included the following;
AMH, TSH, rubella, transvaginal scan, prolactin, bmi, semen evaluation and anti-sperm and consultation- which cost us £750. From that we found out that I had thinner than expected uterine lining and my husband has a low sperm count. We then paid for extra repeat scan for myself and a repeat test for my OH. We did have to pay for those extras along with an extra consultation- we found an improvement but not what it should be again.
In some ways I’m glad we had it and that we know the facts, which is it’s not impossible for us to conceive naturally but it might be a bit trickier for us. But in other ways I wish that things didn’t feel quite as serious so quickly, feels a little overwhelming. Good luck with it all :)

Any updates OP? Did you get scans? X

Acphillips15 · 10/10/2024 12:34

@OneHeapedTeaspoonOfSugar

Not a good update… we’ve both had tests with our GP I’ve been diagnosed with under active thyroid (now on medication) and my husband has a second SA but if it comes back the same as the first it’s looking like it’ll be IVF.

I’ve also been referred by my GP for an ultrasound just waiting for an appointment to come through 🤞

Trying to stay positive but it’s hard with everything going on 😣

@OneHeapedTeaspoonOfSugar not any good news for me I’m afraid- we’re not 14
months in and now on the waitlist for IVF.
My lining looked good a few months ago during a hycosy, but I still spot constantly before my period. wish I could afford a scan every month 🙈

Currently having acupuncture to help with this as doctors don’t seem to be too bothered as my progesterone tests come back ‘normal’ but I still spot up to 5 days before my period. Although acupuncture seems to be helping.
my husband has helped his sperm count by supplements and cutting down caffeine (the main one!) x

Thank you both! It’s so so hard, so all consuming ☹️ sending you both lots of baby dust and love 🫶🏽
