I'm just wondering really....DH and I are considering trying for no.2, first time around we just went for it, but now I'm questioning whether we should put a bit more thought into preparing to conceive.

The thought of going teetotal pre-pregnancy fills me with dread

Taking folic acid is the only thing you need to do, unless either of you are smokers - that can have a negative effect on fertility - or if you are very overweight or underweight as that can affect ovulation.
Otherwise just enjoy yourselves in moderation. As my IVF doctor said when asked about diet - think how many babies are conceived after a few too many beers and a curry!
Maybe if you want to get familiar with your cycle that might help, but it might take the fun out of things. The best advice is sex every other night for as much of your cycle as you can, I think Zita West suggests 15 times per month.
