After TTC for 9 months including one MMC, have just been diagnosed with PCOS. Dr has put me on a course of Clomid starting next cycle. Desperate to hear some stories about successful pg with PCOS. Am 35, slim (8 stone 4-5lbs for 5 ft 5), eat healthily, go to gym regularly, do acupuncture, etc. Anything else I can be doing to help TTC with this? Thank you for any advice!

hi, i also have slight PCOS, but no other symptoms such as irregular periods, facial hair, overweight. sounds like you healthy. i conceived 1st cycle my DS who is now nearly 4.

ttc #2 now. would not hurt if you take good vits like zita west vitafem.

good luck!

Hi, i too had PCOS, i had been to concieve for several months for dc #2, i was given clomid and got pregnant on the second cycle.

Keep positive, and relaxed as possible and in no time you'll get your BFP too

PCOS is an individualistic disorder and affects each woman with it very differently.

You must be monitored whilst on clomid as it is quite powerful stuff and it is not always suitable for all PCOSers to take. If you are not monitored you have no way of knowing whether its doing its job properly or not (clomid encourages the ovaries to work harder).

No monitoring therefore is a no-no.

You should be referred to a gynae too - PCOS is something that should not be messed around with by GPs.

pinkpeony · 29/03/2008 16:58

Thanks Attila. I saw a gynae - he diagnosed me with PCOS after an ultrasound scan. He did not do any blood tests though, and just prescribed Clomid. Should I get a second opinion from another gynae, and should I ask that they do blood tests to check if I have an underlying insulin problem? Do not seem to have any of the other signs often related to PCOS (facial hair, overweight, bad acne - although definitely more spots than when I was on the pill, mood swings) - just irregular periods ever since I had an ERPC following my MMC.
For those of you who went on to have a successful pregnancy, did you all take Clomid or did you manage to conceive without medication? Did you take Metmorfin as well? Or follow low GI or low carb diets?
Heron, am taking the Zita West vitafem and omega oils.

Hi there pinkpeony I'm so sorry about your diagnosis. I was diagnosed a few months ago too and was devastated. We have a lovely thread going here where you'll find some really helpful and supportive girls

TiggerOfDevon · 29/03/2008 19:23

Pinkpeony how does a wonderful pg which resulted in triplets sound? Thats me!!!
Once the right dose/treatment was found it took one attempt and I was PG
I am off to get PG again very soon

All I can say is I was very fit (at the time) took folic acid whilst I was trying and through the early months of the pg and the exercise was great for relieving the stress of the treatment. I would say you are doing everything right!! Good luck!!!

Hi Hun.
I have PCOS and was diagnosed in 2003 after ttc for 1yr. I had a m/c after 2yrs and successfully conceived in 2006 and have a beautiful 20month old son and am ttc again now.
It can work out! Good luck hun x

I have PCOS I found gaining weight from 8 to 9 stone helped (dc1. As someoen else has said it is really individualistic so try a number of different solutions metformin can also be beneficial (dc2)

whomovedmychocolate · 29/03/2008 19:57

I have PCOS - we were told that: (a) I didn't ever ovulate; (b) that my DHs sperm was no good and (c) that if we ever wanted to have a child it could only be achieved by IVF.

Well I conceived before Clomid treatment and miscarried, then when we quit treatment entirely got pregnant and DD is now 17 months. Since then, well we had sex twice since her birth, both times I conceived . First time I miscarried, the second I'm 23 weeks pregnant with now (it's a boy).

So it can definitely happen.

I would say that acupuncture was the kicking off point for me. Also a hypnoconception CD which took the pressure off me by making me believe I could conceive naturally. Also time. I think it takes some women longer than others - nothing wrong with that. You are still young. Eat right, keep up your health - you are doing all the right things.

Clomid turned me into a crazy woman though - you need to keep an eye on it, it has some nasty side effects in some people.

katyt1 · 29/03/2008 19:59

Metformin;
pg 1 after 2 weeks on full dose
pg 2 with no help at all (with only a 20mo gap, oops!)

now worrying about NOT getting pg again too soon

best of luck...
