My ‘what I did differently’ post

Early days still (🤞) but I am newly pregnant after a year of trying, now on 17dpo with an ever darkening line. I obsessively read other people’s descriptions of what they did differently every time I’ve had an unsuccessful cycle, so am adding mine in case it’s helpful to anyone.

  1. It was the first cycle after going to see my GP to get fertility checked - perhaps this took some pressure off.
  2. Usually we would start trying in a fairly full on way at the start of my fertile window, do lots of days in a row, manage a fairly exhausted peak day but certainly not one for luck afterwards. This time my partner was away for work for a week, then we hit day before, day of and day after peak, with a lot more enthusiasm than we would usually have by that point.
  3. I previously used the fertilily conception cup only on peak day, this time I used it all of these three days
  4. I get coldsores, and have had bad coldsores and swollen glands every time I’ve had a chemical. After talking to a friend who conceived after going on antivirals, I took lysine and high dose vit c every day after about 6dpo.
  5. I have an apple watch and used that to monitor my HRV - on days it was low I prioritised decreasing my stress (walks in nature, massage chair, meditation) over productivity. In general I took more of an attitude of doing well enough each day for work, rather than doing my best. I didn’t work late into the evening or at weekends even if I’d had an unproductive or distracted morning.
  6. I also prioritised good sleep in the tww. I wfh so if I had not had a good 8 hours then I slept in a bit more or took a lunchtime nap.
  7. It was my third cycle of zero caffeine.
  8. It was my second cycle of guafen… can’t spell it, the cough medicine stuff.

I kept doing all the things I previously did: prenatal vitamins, coq10, omega 3, nutritious food, no/low alcohol, evening primrose before ovulation and bromelain supplement post ovulation.

I've got my family now, but it was difficult. My top tips that I could useful were

Agnus castus up to positive POAS
High evening primrose oil til ovulation
I used an ovulation microscope (lipstick size spit and dry - easy to use, but you need to be able to focus)
No booze
Lots of gym (bit overweight, but opposite if you're very slim)
And ... the most difficult thing of all - being too busy to keep thinking about it ... easily said, hard to do!!
Good luck and hope alls good for you

Love this! I hope more ladies add to it because it’s all very useful.
@BatildaB what is lysine? Was it’s a pill for vit c?
also what cup did you use? How does it work?

Lysine helps with cold sores, so that’s quite a specific one. But I thought it was interesting that antivirals helped my friend with HSV (I think after two or so years of trying), and that I was having such consistent coldsores with general illness and inflammation alongside the chemicals I had. So it might all be a coincidence but I thought keeping cold sores at bay in the tww might stop my immune system overreacting. I’ve stopped taking it now as don’t want to take unnecessary supplements for too long post bfp.

I got a slow release vit c pill and am taking one in the morning and one before bed, I’ve read somewhere that can be good for uterine lining.

And I got the quite pricey fertilily brand cup from boots. Kept it in 30-45 minutes each time.

Iv never heard anything about guafen (cough medicine stuff also can't spell😂) what's it supposed to do in terms of fertility?

Guaifenecine works by thickening mucous so can help with the CM and the sperm climbing to their destination!

lol - brilliant!! Works a treat ... it sure a house move is the cheapest way to take your mind off things 🤣🤣

Daniki · 23/03/2024 17:44

@FloofCloud interesting! Sure may aswell add it to everything else 😂

Kat2328 · 23/03/2024 17:57

For me, it was giving up booze which seemed to tip the balance in my favour.

Bee pollen tablets. The only thing I did different and from very few follicles/eggs to enough for a fresh and frozen cycle.
