Progesterone Test

Hiya

I had a 21 day test done on day 18 because of my short cycle. When I went to get the results the Dr said the result was very low and I may not have ovulated.

I am going to re book as my period didn't come until more than 10 days after the test was done(it was very late) so either they missed the right time or I didn't ovulate.

My question is - what levels should I expect because I am sure that the Doctor said mine was "6" but I have read on the internet that A level of 30 nmol/l or more suggests ovulation has occurred. yet my doctor told me I was borderline.

i had my dy21 test done and it was 33, my gynae said that she likes to see values of 30-40 cos it means that the lining is thick enough for successful implantation. plus it is a definite proof of egg release.

i am not sure why your doc said 6.3 is borderline? borderline what? did he explain?

also apparently it is imp to have dy21 done right on dy21. obviously this assumes you have a 28 day cycle.

do you know when you ov'ed? cos it is supposed to be done 5-6 days after ov

It was a doctor I have not seen before but I just called the nurse and she said the same thing 6.3 then something about 16-28 range...

oh well, I will just go and have another done.

I didn't get a positive Ovulationstick last month - just a faint second line on about day 18 of my cycle.

AF got me this time, my gynae said to try for 2 more months and if no luck, then start on clomid.

would you consider clomid? how long have u been ttc?

Have been trying for 6 cycles. Came off the pill on October (Mini-pill).

I am 38 in April and at the moment I am not worrying too much about my age but I would like to have kids.

Trouble is that there's so much on the internet to scare me.

All my other tests came back fine. I am thinking that perhaps this test has been done wrongly because it was done on day 17 or 18 of my cycle, it's possible I actually ovulated on day 18 or 19 or later, my cycle was a week longer than I am used to etc.

will just have it again!

Oh and I am really confused by a reading of 6.3

AH! I think I may have worked it out. They said 6.3 but then also 16-28, I am guessing that was the borderline bit? Seriously think they missed my ovulation (Did it too early)

i think so, i think it was done too early. might be worth using ovulation monitors or strips?

you are right there is so much out there on the web, scares me too when i read them. but i still read them, cant help myself...

i have just turned 42, i hope that DS will not be an only child

How short is your cycle exactly?.

Gynaes generally like to see women over 35 if they have been trying for six months without success.

If your progesterone level is low it is likely that your other hormone levels are awry too. I would ask whether your LH and FSH were tested and more importantly compared against one another. If these two levels were not compared then the test is meaningless.

With a result of 6 I don't think that having the progesterone test done after day 21 will have a profound effect on this result. It is also quite possible to have periods without ovulating.

Think you should be referred to a gynae for further tests. You need a diagnosis first and foremost.
