FSH level CD1 or CD4?

Hi! I'm due for an fsh test, which I know should be done on cd2. If my dates work out this is frustratingly going to fall on a Saturday when the hospital won't do it. So my options would be cd1 or cd4. My last test was too high for our referral for ivf to go ahead - at 9.2, done on cd2. I need a result of below 9 for the clinic to refer me.
Can anyone please help me understand whether I'm likely to have a lower reading on cd1 or cd4?! I ovulate early and tend to have a 26 day cycle if that makes a difference! Thank you to anyone that can help 🙂

CD 1 or CD 4 shouldn't make much difference :)

Good luck!

Can I ask how old you are? I had mine tested in January and it was 8. I am concerned about it as I'm only 30 and the cut off for ivf for us is 8.9

I would go for day 1 and catch it low as possible, you were 9.2 on day 2 so day 4 will be higher than 10 possibly. Good luck!

Hi @WisteriaLodge , @riverlodge90
I'm so grateful for your replies- thank you!
@riverlodge90 I'm 37 so you have much more time than me :) our cut off for ivf funding is also 8.9 so desperately trying for a lower result this time 🙏 are you waiting to be referred?

@WisteriaLodge do you think day 1 would be the lowest possible out of all those first few days then? That pic above suggests it does rise from day 1.... I guess theres a reason they say day 2 but not sure why that is!

I also interestingly had someone private message me suggesting day 4 would give a lower result, as for them it had! It's so confusing understanding all this and how it all works lol.
I think I'll try day 1 and possibly beg the clinic for a second test on day 4 if it's still too high 😅 god this is so stressful

Yes CD1 would be the lowest reading, well it always was for me but make sure the flow has started properly and not spotting.
I was always 9.something on day 2 but when I was tested on day 1 it was 8.1 so it's a fair difference. Not sure shy clinics ask for day 2 to be honest. You could ask for a FSH test on day 4 but bear in mind it starts to climb from day 1.

@WisteriaLodge thanks again for sharing this 🙂
I'll go for day1! Now I'm just praying that it does actually start tomorrow so I can make it to the hospital before the weekend arrives and it's too late lol 🙄

I would also go for day 1.

I got my FSH tested this week and frustratingly had to have mine done on day -1/0 as my period was a day late. It was 5.6

So I am assuming it would be higher as day 1-4 progresses.

Magix86 · 21/03/2024 17:56

Hi @bookish83 thanks also for replying. I'm due on tomorrow. No sign of my period just yet. If it arrives Saturday or Sunday I worry that testing on Monday will give another high reading and we still can't be referred for ivf 😟
I'm wondering if I should just go ahead tomorrow anyway, even if my period hasn't arrived?! Would it be that much different? From your outcome it suggests that actually going a day early wasn't a bad result!

To the best of my knowledge I dont have an issue with that reading so I don't know what mine would be on other days!

I just kept my appointment as was too late to change it. I honestly couldn't tell you what a day early would mean but if it means a lower reading I would try it and see.

Must be so frustrating having to wait for the outcome of bloods and feeling like you can't control it x
