21 day/mid luteal progesterone test - is it 7 days after ovulation or 7 days before period?

Confused about whether I did it at the right time! I ordered one from Superdrug, not from the doctors, and the instructions weren’t clear. Online it says varying things, some places say 7 days after ovulation and some 7 days before period!

I’ve had 2 slightly low results- 28.5 and 25.6nmol/L, but not sure if I’m just doing it on the wrong day!

Are you tracking ovulation? I think the instructions are based on a period cycle being 28 days and ovulation happening on day 14, period on day 28. Not everyone ovulates on day 14 though. I would track your ovulation and take the test 7 days after you ovulate.

Yes I am, and I’m always pretty confident about ovulation day and have a fairly stable luteal length. I thought that’s probably the case - so tricky if your luteal isn’t 14! Thanks, I’ll try doing it 7 days after ovulation ☺️

If you are irregular- 7 days after your ovulation. Regular - 7 days before period

Hi OP, I had this dilemma recently because my luteal phase is usually only 10 days long. I ended up going with 6 DPO, 4 days before period. My result was 27. So quite high but not over 30, my doctor said it was likely after the peak and on it's way back down by the time I had the test.

I have short cycles (22-24 days) and a short luteal phase - when I was testing this, I would test 7 days after ovulation. Results were usually on the lower side, which was presumably what was causing my short luteal phase.
